Me too.
Losing either would be a blow, losing both would be a real bummer.
As far as Buehler, I would be careful about letting a guy go who has proven he can raise his game in the pressure moments. It has happened enough with him where I believe this.
With Teo, he was just sensational this year and if it took say 3 Years, $90 million I say do it. But of course I don't write the checks.... _________________ Love, Laker Lanny |

MLB Trade Rumors' top 50 free agent list, with predictions, is out. It's always a favorite of mine to read. I'll provide the link below, and I'll note the Dodger-related stuff in the piece:
https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2024/11/2024-25-top-50-mlb-free-agents-with-predictions.html
--They predict that Snell gets 5 years, $160MM, with 1 of their 4 writers/contributors predicting that he signs with the Dodgers
--Six years and $160MM for Adames, and all 4 predict he signs with...the Giants. They do note that he could be a candidate to move over to third base eventually, and Muncy is only signed through 2025, with a club option in '26.
--6/156 for Max Fried, with 1 of 4 predicting he signs with the Dodgers
--5/115 for Flaherty, with 1 of 4 predicting a return to the Dodgers. If he gets close to that amount, I am quite confident that we will not be re-signing him.
--3/60 for Teoscar, with 1 of 4 predicting a return to the Dodgers. At that price, it should be a no-brainer, seriously, for the Dodgers. They also note that his defensive metrics were far, far better in RF than LF, and he had previously played RF. If we're moving Betts back to 2B, we should get Teoscar back to his more familiar RF.
--They predict 3/60 for both Manaea and Kikuchi, and while none of their 4 predicted the Dodgers, we could figure to have interest in one or both
--1/16 for Scherzer, and I was surprised to see 1 of their guys predicted the Dodgers. I can't see that at all; he tapped out on us in a do-or-die game, and I simply don't see us going there again, even if he wasn't going to be 40 next year.
--2/16 for AJ Minter, with 1 predicting the Dodgers
--1/15 for Buehler, with none of them predicting a return to the Dodgers
--2/14 for Michael Soroka, and, curiously, 2 of the 4 predict the Dodgers here. This went completely under my radar, but apparently he was very good after a move to the bullpen in late May, and he's still only 27.
--1/12 for Shane Bieber, with site owner Tim Dierkes predicting the Dodgers. He had TJ surgery in April so he could be an option for teams around mid-season.
--1/12 for Verlander, with 1 of 4 predicting the Dodgers. Again, can't see this. He's a declining, "old" pitcher.
--They list Treinen as the first "honorable mention" not to make the top 50 list, so they don't think he will command $7MM next season. I happen to disagree with that assessment. |

^Great stuff Stu! You and LBP in particular make this thread so informative.
And I love all the other regulars also, this place is always such a great read.
PS - 5 years for $115 million for Flaherty would seem to be a drastic overpay. I like him, but I wouldn't do that either as you said. _________________ Love, Laker Lanny |

Kershaw has officially become a free agent, declining his $10MM option. But have no fear: it appears that this will benefit the Dodgers, because now that he's a free agent, he is NOT on the 40-man roster, which gives us some extra roster flexibility. Presumably, the two sides will end up reaching another incentive-laden deal. |

He gave a very emphatic “Dodger for life!” At the celebration, so I think you are correct. |

Letting Walker Buehler go would be very stupid of the Dodgers. Playoff performance is the only thing that matters when it comes to the Dodgers. |

I trust AF too much to believe he would make that kind of mistake. Do we want 111-win teams that fail in the playoffs with regular season merchants like Low Leverage Trea or do we want guys who will give us less wins in the regular season while we need to monitor them heavily in the regular season to ramp up for the playoffs. |

I'd like Buehler back, but at this point he might be like that sports car you love. Pricey to maintain and in the shop too often; just not the vehicle you can rely on to get you to your destination.
To belabor the metaphor, let's see the sticker price. |

I'm gonna repeat something I said weeks ago, the Dodgers need to stop resigning Pitchers (as well as any other players), based on LOYALTY or HOPES that they will/can return to their previous form.
Looking at the number of Pitchers on the IL last year, is a tribute to their Offense, but if they can field a decent Pitching staff, it would not even be close next year.
They should pay money to players that ACTUALLY contribute (Teo & Kiki) over players they HOPE can contribute...! _________________ NOT A THING COMES TO MIND...!

I just watched Mookie's padcast with Dave Roberts. It's pretty good.
The part that stood out to me was Dave talked about the 8th when Treinen was pitching. Stanton comes up to bat and Dave goes out there. He basically went out there to talk to him and to slow things down to give him a breather. Dave asks Treinen if he's alright and Treinen tells him Stanton is my guy. He wanted to get Stanton out. After Stanton got out, Dave was gonna go with Hudson to face Rizzo. Dave was waiting for Treinen to look in to the dugout to signal that he is done but he didn't. Then Dave looked over to Freddie and Freddie motioned to Dave to just let Treinen pitch. Dave said in the past he would have just taken him out. |

Quote: | Per ESPN's Kiley McDaniel, the Dodgers are "heavily favored" to land Japanese star Roki Sasaki as "indications" are the Chiba Lotte Marines will post him for MLB clubs. |

This is/was the plan all along right. WBC team reunited + all the deferred money from Sho. I consider it a done deal. |

More news:
Quote: | Roki Sasaki receiving guidance from Joel Wolfe
As Sasaki contemplates his future, he has reportedly been receiving guidance from agent Joel Wolfe, who helped negotiate the record-setting contract between Yoshinobu Yamamoto and the Dodgers last December. |
Quote: | McDaniel noted that international bonus pools will reset after Dec. 15 to give teams around $7 million to spend, but the pools will be limited to around $2.5 million at most if he gets posted before that date. |
Here's my question. Does it matter when he's posted or when he's signed? McDaniel thinks that it's when he's posted, which kinda doesn't make sense to me. What if he's posted Dec. 14 but signs in Jan 2025?
Anyways, seems like Dec. 15th would be an important date then.
Quote: | Despite the interest from the Dodgers, McDaniel did explain there are "complicating factors" that could prevent the World Series champs from landing Sasaki, including some thought he might prefer a smaller market and concerns he might be "nursing an injury" because his velocity was down this season.
Sasaki's average fastball velocity in the in the 2023 WBC semifinals for Japan against Mexico was 100.5 mph. |
Yeah, it's Nov 5th now. Time to start the 2025 Dodgers thread with the headline:
Quote: | Sasaki! Sasaki! Sasaki! Sasaki! Sasaki! Sasaki! Sasaki! |

Insane how this is the golden generation of Japanese baseball and we will soon have all their top players. These Dodgers feel like when the Real Madrid Galacticos was formed with Figo, Zidane, Beckham and Ronaldo joined Raul, Hierro and Roberto Carlos. |

Seeing that the 2025 thread is coming soon I had to go back to page 1 to revisit the best free agency in my lifetime of any sport. So many awesome gems in there from people on Reddit saying he’s choosing Toronto because of the mound, to the Hoonstra article and to the absolute panic when we thought Toronto was done. The amount of “Ohtani is dead to me if he chooses Toronto” was hilarious to see. Anyways I think my fav moment of the whole thing was this:

Yes this is exactly what I was thinking too except imagine if the Galacticos were all the same nationality |

Speaking of the 2025 thread, I was waiting for today to start it since it's the 1 year anniversary and want to keep the same mojo.
Or should we ask the mods to rename this thread? Up to y'all. _________________ KOBE |

Padres fans trying to convince themselves that Sasaki wants to go to the Padres and say he really looks up to Darvish.
Another reason they give is Sasaki wouldn’t want to go to a team that just won. Huh? |

Even losing Musgrove for 2025, their rotation would be awesome, on paper, with Cease, Darvish, King, and Sasaki as the front four in the rotation. Ours would be Yamamoto, Glasnow, Ohtani, and Sasaki. |
