Shohei Ohtani of the @Dodgers is the second NL player to have at least 50 extra-base hits and 20 stolen bases prior to the All-Star break, joining Bobby Bonds, who did so for the Giants in 1973.

Surprised Acuna isn’t on this list |
Based on talent, it is surprising, but after looking at his stats it makes sense now. A lot of it is bad luck and circumstance.
2018 - 111 GP, 56 XBH, 16 SB
2019 - 156 GP, 85 XBH, 37 SB
2020 - COVID SEASON - only 40 hits total
2021 - 82 GP - ACL injury
2022 - 119 GP, 39 XBH, 29 SB
2023 - 159 GP, 80 XBH, 73 SB - MVP SEASON
2024 - 49 GP - ACL injury
He's now lost 2 seasons to an ACL injury, and then the 1 COVID-shortened season where he only had 40 hits total. 2019 and 2023 were the only years he could have done it, but then it's about "pace". With 80 XBH in a full season (1 XBH every 2.025 games), he'd have to be right ahead of that pace up to the ASG (~95 games, or 1 XBH every 1.9 games).
What this just tells us is that Ohtani is an absolute baseball freak and nothing short of amazing. Before today's game, 88 GP with 109 Hits, 53 XBH (49% of his hits!!!) |

Glasnow to the IL with back tightness. Hopefully, it's a fake IL stint just to keep his innings down. Looks like he won't be pitching in the All-Star Game now. Perhaps one of Stone, Phillips, or Vesia will replace him. |

Didn’t they say at the beginning of the year that there will be no innings restrictions placed on Glasnow?
Nevertheless, keeping his innings down is a very prudent thing to do based on his innings history. |

Bobby Mlller is getting hammered in the second inning. _________________ Nobody in the NBA can touch the Laker brand, which, like the uniform color, is pure gold. |

Every time Miller walks a batter, it goes south from there. He needs to get tougher mentally. |

Lux, Outman, and Biggio in the line up with Miller pitching. This game was over before it even started. |

I have officially turned the game off. LOL. 9-0 and it's only the 4th inning. So including Sunday's game, we allowed 18 runs in 13 innings. |

Hopefully the team does something magical. They always do when I turn the game off early. |

Injuries have ruined two young Dodoger aces in Buehler and Bobby Miller. I don’t think this has ever happened before to any club with a young ace, not to mention two. |

Miller wasn't even a strikeout pitcher averaging 99 on his fastball. Now he's at 97 after the shoulder injury and it's like he's Buehler. No putaway pitch. His 97 is like a meatball. Vesia's 93-95 is like unhittable. Baseball is funny like that. |

If Bobby Miller is struggling due to his shoulder injury, then he should have had surgery and not have come back.
Our medical staff is just so inept. We can't get anyone to come back fully healthy... |

I was listening to Dodgers post game radio and seems like the fanbase got a huge dose of reality today. Dodgers are far from the best teams in the MLB and got some work to do. |

It's hard to judge since we're so banged up at the moment.
We certainly aren't playing well either. |

I think he shows the ball too much. Mookie was talking about this. How 100 can feel like 100 so long as he doesn't "see" the pitch coming. So it's about extension, grip, holding the ball back. Vesia has a really crazy angle he comes at (especially for lefties), so no one even really sees the ball until it is out of his hand and his 93-95 just comes in fast.
Bobby clearly cannot be doing that -- otherwise it would not be so easy to time it. Doesn't help his offspeed is actually kind of crap - really easy to spit on it as batters can tell what it is out the gate (and usually that it is a ball) and either sit fastball or wait for a meatball offspeed. Compare that to Gavin Stone, whose pure stuff isn't as good, but his fastball clearly plays and his offspeed all starts off as a strike before falling off the plate. |

And Dustin May. May had better stuff and command than Miller out the gate. Buehler at least we squeezed some stuff out and I think the spider tack ruined him more (second TSJ came after, but Buehler had already lost his K ability once spider tack went away). |

Yep. May's stuff was as filthy as I've ever seen. His command was not always there however. Also, though Gonsolin was never quite in this league, I saw him as a solid #3 with #2 potential. _________________ Hey Doge, ever hear of “measure twice, cut once?” It is not cut first and measure later. |
