The whole point of everyone having the same game time start yesterday was to avoid this type of thing. Not only is this game unwatchable but it would have made the first game more exciting. As much as IDGAF about the dbags, it's really unfair for them. |
I understand what people mean when they say this because NYM and ATL have the power of hindsight and "know" the circumstances they're playing for. But then again ARI went 13-13 in September.
If one game is all the difference between making the playoffs and not, then they only have themselves to blame. They lost 2 games to the Rockies, 3 to SF, and 3 to SD. You need to take care of business in your division if you want to make the playoffs. ARI didn't do that in September. |
Let's not forget about that game when they were up 6-0 on the Brewers and blew that. I was just thinking if it was the Dodgers in that situation that's how I would feel. |

I understand Mets not trying but what's the Braves excuse? They can't get anything going. |

Huge hit for Ozuna. That's some decent breathing room, up 3-0. But it looks like Atlanta is going right back to Jimenez for the 8th. That could mean Iglesias for the 9th if the game stays close. And that almost certainly rules both of those guys out for Game 1 tomorrow in San Diego, if this score holds.
Jimenez with an easy 8th. He actually only threw a total of 19 pitches today, so I guess he could be available tomorrow. |

I bet if it was the Dodgers and Giants playing this DH in SF, the Dodgers would play to end the Giants season. We wouldn't use our best arms but our guys would still try to get runs at least. |

Wow, Nimmo just tanked that run to first for the double play to happen. They just wanted that sh*t to be over lol. That, and I'm sure they really didn't want to play the Padres.
Now all attention turns to Sale and if he can at least start for them by Game 2 of that series. |

I do agree that WC takes away from the best teams going at it in the post season. But it adds excitement to the regular season. Games down the stretch means something. Still if I had to choose then I chose no WC series. |
I think our 100 win seasons would have been much more exciting under the older system before 1994. Back then winning the division put teams into a best of 7 in the NLCS. If the top teams in the division played each other, the series was more intense. And we really ruined the Giants 1993 season after they won 103 games. Today, the Giants would have coasted the last 4 games of the season instead of fight for their playoff lives (if the situation was similar to the one in 1993).
For some teams this new system will have more meaning. For other teams it has less meaning. I noticed once baseball introduced the wild card Braves fans seemed less into the regular season. They took and wait and see approach with the team and sometimes even had empty seats in the Division Series and NLCS.
I’m really concerned about the Division Series. Makes me miss the old format when you got a #1 seed and got into the NLCS right away. |

Speaking of weak attendance in the playoffs, the Dodgers won the division in 1988 and it took 7 years to win it again in 1995. But people knew the Dodgers chances in the playoffs weren’t good with the expanded playoffs. Some teams were much heavier favorites and the chances of outlasting a group of 8 teams instead of 4 are much lower. So the attendance at Dodger Stadium for the first playoff game in 7 years was 44,199. Game 2 attendance was 46,051.
After 1996, the Dodgers didn’t make the playoffs again until 2004. Attendance in the first playoff game at Dodger Stadium was 55,992.
Baseball attendance did suffer from the strike too, but those attendance numbers were still pretty weak and it looked like attendance for a regular season game.
Today there are more underdogs in the playoffs with a chance, but there are so many teams now that even the favorites are going to need a lot of things to go their way to win it all. |

Snitker said he doesn't expect Sale to be available for the Wild Card round. If true, wow. |

I wish dodgers ended up as 2nd seed. Either the Braves or the Padres will have advantage against the dodgers mentally heading into the NLDS. |

Mental advantage doesn't workout. Look what happened to us for 3 years straight. 21 Braves, 22 Padres, and 23 Dbacks. All 3 years we knew we were the superior team. |

Sale is really hurt. He is not no their WC roster. I'm sure he'll heal if they advance to NLDS against us. |

It is funny (not in the ha ha, but in the hmmm) that just a couple of days ago I was just thinking about him and that with all the injuries to pitchers this year, somehow the guy who has not had a full season in five years, made it all the way through and even qualified for ERA and other innings based stats.
Dude when on is as good as they come, or maybe better stated, when in, that is. _________________ "A metronome keeps time by using a Ringo" |

Yeah, both he and Skubal did. I suspect it has happened before, but I can't remember when--well, whadaya know it not only happened recently, 2011, but the year Kersh won it, and in 1924 and 1918. _________________ "A metronome keeps time by using a Ringo" |

Wow, Heyward just lined out to end the game in the bottom of the 9th, as Houston put forth a rally finally. Bases were loaded, Houston down 3-1, Altuve on deck. Ripped a 2-2 changeup right into the first baseman's glove. |

If he was wearing a Dodger uni that ball would’ve gotten through |

I was wrong about Fried starting Game 1; he pitched last Friday, so he is going tomorrow, not today. The Braves are forced to go with a young prospect right-hander who made a few starts for them during the season, AJ Smith-Shawver. I also find it interesting that the Padres are apparently going to start Musgrove in Game 2, ahead of Cease. To me, Cease profiles as their most beastly postseason starter with all the strikeouts, so considering him as their #3 raises my eyebrow. |

Ragans and Skubal are total beasts so those games aren't surprising to me at all. |
