Phoenix projects to go 6-5 with 11 games left, losing every other game against tough opponents assuming they beat SA tonight. The Lakers are projected to finish 7-4 over the final 11 games splitting against tough opponents and winning all their games against inferior opponents.
The projection isn’t enough to get the 8th rank as Dallas/Sac have easier schedules. Even tho the Kings have a tougher route it’s not as brutal as the Suns so it’s more logical to consider how the Lakers can pass the Suns for a top half of play-in bracket. The Mavs schedule is soft so they likely won’t figure in to the Lakers moving up.
The Lakers need to win an extra game projected while the Suns need to lose an extra game project to account for the 3 games needed to make up to get 8th for the Lakers. It’s gonna be close. I don’t think it matters either way tho since the Lakers didn’t upgrade the back up C position to improve rebounding and defense when AD is out. As a long time Laker fan I’m really not interested in just doing well in the playoffs when I can’t envision a path to the championship which I can’t atm.

It's possible, the Nuggets are invincible with Murray going Jordan on us but he is also injury prone. You never want to rely on that, but part of playoff success is luck and the matchups could fall your way. |

Looking at the standings. This play-in is gonna be tough. We just gotta win out and hope we grab the 8th seed. That way we have 2 shots to make the playoffs.
If we stay at 9th.
And if the Suns are a 7th/8th seed. I'm not sure who I want in the other 7th/8th spot.
Normally I would say I'd prefer the Kings over Mavericks. But the Kings have had our number.

Yes I believe that's how it works. If we could get the 7th seed and OKC is 2, that could be the favorable matchup that puts us into round 2. If Towns is not 100%, I could see us getting to the WCF...now if we could get a Clippers upset of the champs, we would essentially have HCA for the WCF. That's is our only road thru the playoffs, I am thinking. Denver looks pretty formidable and Buck Foston!

That would be wild if it turned out that way. I think almost all of the possible scenarios are very favorable for the Lakers. The only two teams the Lakers don’t match up well against are the Nuggets and Kings. The Kings will be out in the first round and there are a few teams that could potentially take out the Nuggets. I still think the Lakers could take them in a series anyway but they’re really the only team standing in their way. |
