this is obviously purely hypothetical Phil ain't coming back at 78 years old. BUT, just for fun... how for could an early 60s phil jackson push this exact team?

yes, with his staff. tex winters, frank hamblen, kurt rambis

Phil Jackson with LBJ and AD?

Championship on that alone.

Phil Jackson with LBJ, AD, DLO, Reaves, Vando and Dinwiddie, Wood, Hachimura and Hayes off the bench?

Multiple Championships.

Consider the fact we have 4 playmakers in the first unit if we ran DLO/AR/Vando/LBJ/AD there's 4 playmakers in that lineup. In the triangle if modified to the modern era, there'd be a lot of open opportunities.

The triangle has a lot of pick and roll and three point plays set up within it. We didn't see a lot of that from the PG perspective because we didn't have a PG to run that, as Kobe was the defacto "PG" in the triangle.

But with the backcourt we have + LBJ and AD's passing abilities it'd probably be very beautiful basketball to watch.

But it'd take Phil an off-season to get everyone used to it.

I agree PJ is the "God" of NBA coaches.

Probably a 4 seed. He would have decent lineups but not push the seniors to much needlessly assuming he can modernize his systems Pop style

If we ran the modern variant of the Triangle with the Motion offense and utilizing more three point sets like Golden State does, and Phil was coaching it? We'd probably be a top 3 seed right now.

To be fair to Phil he’s never missed the playoffs and he’s always finished over 500

Smush
Cook
Vujacic
Mihm
Farmar
George
Profit
Walton

Shammond
Smush
Farmar
Vujacic
Walton
Radmanovic
Cook
Kwame
Bynum
Evans
Turiaf

That’s his main core for 2 years around Kobe and Odom and he finished over 500 both years

Fisher
Ariza
Walton
Bynum
Kwame
Farmar
Vujacic
Turiaf
Radmanovic

That was well over 500 before Pau came as a core with Kobe and Odom … then he got Pau with no training camp midsession in the road trip and he went to the finals without Bynum and Ariza

If you take AD and Bron out the question

Dlo
Reaves
Rui
Vando
Wood
Prince
Hayes

That’s a core he can win with just like the smush years and the mlb years for MJ if you give him AD and Bron

This coach went years where his third best players on his team were
- BJ Armstrong (MJ retired)
- Derek Fisher (3 peat)
- Luke Walton (pre Pau)

And he finished over 500 … this can’t be a question

At least the Western Conference Finals.

But Phil would've had to let this team be a fast-breaking team and play early offense instead of always making them set up the triangle offense. This Lakers team is best off playing in the first five to seven seconds of the shot clock.

I don't think our roster is a great match for Phil. He'd be dangerous with Minny or Philly's roster though.

Phil Coached the Albany Patroons to a title
They were a rag tag bunch
Phil drove the BUS
Phil convinced every player to put their pay into a pot and distribute it out fairly.. with more going to players who had to leave family behind to come out and fight for wins

The Windmill Defender knows how to get more out of players than they knew was in them

Not as well as you would hope. Neither LBJ nor AD are good triangle players. I am curious to see someone like SPO

How much buy-in are we getting on the Triangle in this day and age?

Might as well ask if the Niners would have won the Superbowl if Vince Lombardi was coaching them.

Unpopular opinion: Mike D'Antoni would do wonders with this roster.

He just about won 30 games in that season with Nick Young, Kendall Marshall, Wes Johnson, Jodie Meeks, etc. Hell of a feat looking back if we are being honest lol

At least a 50-win season minimum.

Well, considering that Phil Jackson actually learns from his mistakes and knows how to adjust in-game, he probably goes a lot further than Ham Sandwich.

Anyone still running triangle offense today?

Wonder how effective it would be in today’s game. I don’t think it will generate enough points.

That just reminded me that when Phil was running the Knicks he got fined for like a compliment he had on DLo when he was at OSU after a game he scouted him or something like that lol

It’s a real shame that we never got to see Phil Jackson coach LeBron. He would have been the ultimate Triangle Offense player.

What’s funny to me is that posters here would complain about how Phil was senile during the three straight championships runs from 07-08 to 09-10, how Luke was his son, etc. And then did the same thing with Mike Brown and D’Antoni, both previous and future Coach of the Year recipients. Now we get to see what a truly terrible coach looks like.

Phil had great player leadership from role players. Zero on this team. His best players were always animals . Zero on this team.

I have serious doubts about implementing the triangle in 2024 as well as LeBron (or his “posse”) wanting to play for Phil. PJ is seriously out of touch with players today.

The achilles heel of Phil coached teams was the three point shot.
