Wow, RIP _________________ “The main goal for the Lakers is to win a championship. All I care about, all we care about, is to raise another banner in the rafters.“
That’s really sad. Jerry West was an icon - the logo of the NBA. And one of the most interesting people in it. He was known as Mr. Clutch even though he lost to the Celtics over and over again - that’s how inspiring his play was even in losses. West succeeded so much at every level and yet was obsessed with all the ways he failed. Apparently he struggled with severe depression all his life but was still able to make an indelible mark on the league in so many ways. Unlike many former players, he appreciated modern greats and spoke highly of many of them. He had the perfect textbook jump shot and was way ahead of his time as a combo guard. He was by any measure one of the 15 greatest basketball players ever. And at the same time was probably a top 3 best GMs ever and put together squads like the Shaq-Kobe Lakers and the Warriors. RIP.

Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May their souls and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
