I know of no other way other than a fitted (bottom) sheet, and a top sheet.

Fitted sheet, top sheet, and heavy blankets in the winter, fitted sheet, and top sheet only in the summer. I tuck my top sheet on one side. Tucking both sides make me feel trapped.

Is it a generational preference? I grew up thinking the top sheet/tucked top sheet was exclusively a hotel thing. I never liked my legs feeling as if they were saran-wrapped to the bed.

Just fitted sheet + top sheet, with a blanket in the winter.

I visited the UK a couple of months ago for the first time and found out that the top sheet isn't a thing in hotels there. It's strictly fitted sheet + duvet.

I only use a top sheet most of the year. Too hot most of the time in Florida for a blanket unless I want to spend a fortune cooling the house to like 70 during the summer.

It’s pretty common in hotels here as well. Which makes sense from a housekeeping logistics sense.

Fitted, top and comforter. Comforter is usually pushed aside at night.

My partner tucks the top sheet and I proceed to kick it loose. It’s like perpetual trench warfare.

Tucked on my wife's side. Untucked on mine. I can't sleep with my feet covered unless the room is under 70 degrees.

Why on God's green earth wouldn't you use a top sheet? I don't want anything else covering my delicate skin.

I can't tuck it in. For a while, my wife was tucking it in on both sides and I would wake up and my achilles tendons were feeling tight as hell. Then I realized why. My side of the flat sheet now remains untucked.

My fitted sheet rides up. I have screw-in pins to hold it in place.

I use a duvet, a lot more convenient than a top sheet.

Nope grew up dirt poor. Mattress with a cover, pillow with a cover (cover for pillow came later) and a blanket. Never even heard of it until we moved to a better neighborhood in HS and friends used it. Still don't use it. Should I? So it goes between blanket and yourself? What does it add?

I grew up always using a top sheet for no reason other than it typically came in the bedding sets we bought. A few years ago I learned that the top sheets are much less common in Europe. For some reason I never really questioned it until then, but I can't sleep with just a top sheet and the sheet always got kicked around or tangled up under the blanket in the night, so it wasn't really doing anything for me. Tucking it in feels way too restrictive and leaving it untucked always resulted in a tangled mess of a sheet under the duvet/comforter by the morning.

Having a wool blanket next to your skin would be uncomfortable, especially if you sleep in the buff. A top sheet is for comfort.

Both is a good answer.

My fitted sheets have an elastic strap in each corner.

Are the straps like this or are the made on the sheets? I have those straps but they don't work well so I pin my sheets.
