No. One, it would be FAR to costly to acquire Trae Young. Two, getting him would not be an improvement. He's far too ball dominant, while not displaying being an effective off-ball player on offense. His style of play does NOT mesh with how we've heard about Redick's offensive ideology. Combined with his atrocious defense...

Just no.

When you see what they got for him, it's disappointing that the Lakers didn't push harder.

Sorry I just don't see how it works out with Dejounte and CJ. That is pure and unadulterated basketball terrorism come playoff time.

Pelicans should have continued to stockpile picks and draft players rather than trade them away for someone who won’t make them a serious contender.

Pels are a garbage franchise who gave away Garland for 2 picks that didn't work out, but I thought this was a solid move by them. Even a broken clock is right twice a day. They gave the Hawks our 2025 FRP and the Bucks 2027 FRP, while keeping their own picks. Larry was an expiring but he hardly contributed because of his injuries. Love his hustle but he's on his way out of the league.

In order for DJM to work, they have to move on from one of BI or CJ, or CJ has to come off of the bench. Their 3pt shooting is a mess. BI is ISOLATION heavy and hates shooting 3s while DJM is terrible at it. And then Zion refuses to develop a jumper at all. Just like last season they will be the easiest team to figure out and neutralize come playoff time. They'll beat up on crap teams but get exposed by playoff caliber ones. Just pack the paint and call it a day. If Zion doesn't develop a jumper, teams will beat them blindfolded.

The irony of our own first round pick from a previous overpay being used against us.

I'm happy we seem to be done with just blowing our resources.

Not that a trade can't still happen, but at least we aren't doing Godfather offers for mid talent.

DjMurry shoots about the same from 3pt as AR. Would you call AR terrible at it? I wouldn’t, 36% isn’t anything to write home about but it’s not bad.

Could the NOP start DjM/McCollum/BI/Zion/Val and be competitive? Trey Murphy and Herb Jones are SF tweener types like BI but I suppose they could play backup PF behind Zion. It seems on paper that it could work, especially if they add another big.

Also, CJMcCollum shot 43% from 3pt so perhaps the backcourt 3pt shooting isn’t what you perceive with Murphy/Jones @ 42%/38%, even the 4th guard, Alvarado shoots 38% from 3pt, I’d say not only isn’t it a mess but it actually looks pretty good lol!

People are underrating Dyson Daniels. Young and can/will be an elite defender one day -- and is honestly a great fit next to Trae or as a building block going forward. Nance is also a high level role player who just does his job. Seems like their vision was clearly to build long, lanky, defensive group around Trae.

Rui doesn't provide that and JHS is really of no value. Reaves fit with Young is not ideal either. D'lo has zero fit to their vision. Just seems like a situation where we weren't their best dance partner.

Either the Lakers are really buying that Ham was the problem and JJ will solve the problems with better schemes OR they have a much bigger move lined up down the road.

Two things come to me

1) They want to only move picks for a star like Trae/Donovan. If you add Kenecht, Reaves, JHS, 2029 and 2031 picks, that's the same as giving a team 5 draft picks. It's not really the same, but it's in the ballpark of what a team is looking for in a re-build. You can now add a few expiring contracts too.

2) Assuming #1 isn't happening, now the Lakers have faith in their coach and process to actually develop players. So players like Kenecht, Reaves (although he's 26 already), JHS, Christie, Bronny can all develop.

The main thing for me is whether #1 is available to them. If they feel #1 is available to them, they will not be doing any smaller scale moves using picks. Woj said way back at trade deadline 2024 that Pelinka is saving these picks in case he's get a crack at Trae/Donovan.

What seems to be their agenda. Develop young players and run it back with JJ, who in their mind is much better than Ham. Then, if the opportunity presents itself move the young pieces/FRPs for a star that can be paired with AD longterm.

I'm glad, I'm tired of this team treating first round draft picks like they don't matter, they do. Still love the AD trade even today, but the throwing away of picks ever since has been bad, really bad. It does sounds like Rob has learned the value of picks with his recent comments. Its better to become a good GM late, than never at all.

I stand corrected. I checked his 3pt numbers, and it's pretty decent now on 7 attempts. He's steadily improved over the years. I guess I was referring to his previous years where he didn't have the range to shoot it and played a more inside game. BI is the one who's regressed from that area. DeJounte's TS%, however, sticks out like a sore thumb however. 55 is 3 points below league average, so he'll have to improve efficiency-wise and take better shots.

Still a great move for the Pelicans because he's a 2-way player, and they had major holes at the PG spot. They gave up 2 FRPs from other teams for someone that is roughly on par with Mikal Bridges. Now if they get rid of CJ or move him to the bench, that's one less liability they'll have to worry about come playoff time. I cannot see CJ and DJM co-existing. They'll both be trying to take as many shots as possible, which plays into the opponents' hands. They are both high usage guys who cannot play off-ball.

If they can get Mitchell I'm all for it. Hopefully they don't go after Trae though. It does sound like Mitchell is going to stay in Cleveland though, and I'm not sure who else is out there. If there's no real star available, I'd prefer they go after a mid-20s type of guy, who costs them less assets.

That was a lot of the draw of Murray, he was on a value contract for what he provides.

I don't disagree on what the Lakers goals likely are. I'm just not sure who else is out there other than Mitchell as a superstar (other than Trae, who I'd avoid like the plague). Perhaps there is something out there that nobody is expecting.

Turning some of these one way players into two way players would be a good fallback.

Dyson Daniels was in the deal too. He’s a bull dog of a defensive guard. He was arguably the Pels best defensive player last season.

Markkanen looks like the only star who could potentially be available via trade.
