I agree with the masses that on the surface moving DLO for Klay is not a RS upgrade but when you think about playoff matchups it gets much more interesting.

Teams don't scheme to stop DLO off the ball. Not nearly as much as they would with Klay. He has a rep and respected sharpshooter that would be playing off screens and in motion. This gives the Lakers a little bit of a different look. Factor in they have Gabe, Austin, JHS, Max. There's a lot of 2 guard or 3rd guard combos they would be able to play with Klay that would be more effective in a playoff setting than with DLO.

Regular season wise though, DLO > Klay of last year. Playoffs? I take Klay every time. Teams will actually have to scheme or pay with not putting body on Klay. He is not someone that needs the ball to score. He is an extremely good complement to AD/Bron, who are high usage guys.

I would view him as Danny Green 19-20 on steroids. In a 25 mpg role, I think he would give better effort on defense than we saw in GST. That said, I'm neither here or there on this move. I think at best this move helps us in the POs but hurts us in the RS a bit.

Would GST even want DLO for Klay?

Not seeing where LeBron hero ball in the playoffs makes us a good team without a real point guard. Maybe Gabe steps in. Maybe we trade AR?

If Klay wants the MLE, then thats a different ball game. Klay as a straight up signing? Cool. Klay but giving up our depth and key pieces to the Warriors and paying him $27-$30 Million? No thank you.

The Celtics have depth. AR, DLO, T Prince, Dimwiddie, Gabe Vincent, Woods etc is not depth. Its a squad that collapses in the post season. I would ship all these clowns out for Klay.

That's precisely what it is. And Klay is a lateral move, not one we actually need to make nor something the team is missing.

Stop assuming Klay is Klay of 4-5 years ago. He's not. On this team his production wouldn't be far off from Reaves and he'd cost twice as much. Cutting any depth for Klay (outside of maybe Rui) isn't worth it in the slightest.

C'mon. Did we actually think we were getting Klay? We aren't getting DeMar either so let's stop that now.

eh, i'm fine with losing out on klay. this had remnants of westbrook. meaning aging superstars past their prime... just on name alone.

and we have too many much younger shooting guards anyway. they need to eat too.

It's probably for the best. Klay is a bad defender now and going 0-10 in the biggest game of the season is DLO-like.

Maybe Klay simply don’t wanna play with Bron, rival kinda thing, the anti-KD. Oh well

I'd imagine it has more to do with how much longer LeBron plans on playing. If LeBron were likely to play 2-3 more years, it'd probably be a bit more likely he'd come to LA. But if he's a year-to-year, and most likely one more season then Dallas is actually a better destination.

Klay was smart in that when LBJ calls it quits soon, there’s a significant rebuild and losing patch coming.. Dallas is fresh off finals and has both less pressure and taxes… smart choice, IMO.

And, unless pick were involved (hopefully they were not) then Warriors were smart not to take on salary for no reason…

Klay coming here would be more of an asset for his veteran leadership not so much his play.

I don’t believe the Lakers offered more than Dallas did but either way, they dodged an enormous bullet with this one.

Now that I think about it, if the reporting is true that $20M/per for Klay is A LOT of money

I have to remember that Klay lost his starting job to Brandin Podziemski
