The USWNT is back, baby!

The Team USA men won gold in the 4 x 400 meter relay, with 400M hurdle champion Rai Benjamin barely holding off 200M champion Letsile Tebogo of Botswana on the final leg.

Shelby McEwen got silver in the men's high jump, and it actually went to a jump-off for the gold. In the 2021 Tokyo Games, the same scenario could have unfolded, but the top two guys just chose to share the gold. Not this time, and our guy came up short in the jump-off to New Zealand's Hamish Kerr.

The women's 4 x 400 meter relay is about to start, the final track race in these Games. If we win it, we tie China in gold medals with 37.

EDIT: We won it in such an obvious rout that it was like watching Secretariat at the Belmont! They set an American record while doing it. That's the third gold medal for Gabby Thomas.

China has just re-taken the gold medal lead with 38 after their female duo (twin sisters, actually) won in artistic swimming. Time for men's basketball to tie this back up.

Possibly one of the laziest quarters of basketball I have ever seen. And now France is back in it.

The US women's soccer team won gold. Trinity Rodman wears #5; she's the daughter of former Laker Dennis Rodman (though he's better know for his time with the Bulls).

The U.S. tried to grip it away, but Curry made a barrage of 3's late to ice it.

Yeah, doesn’t have the same feeling as gold medal events in other sports. Like a hare vs tortoise.

In a great story, the IOC has granted a protest by the Romanian Gymnastics Federation and the bronze medal that should have been theirs in the first place has now been restored. No word on whether or not they are going to make Jordan Chiles give back her bronze. But this is absolutely the right decision. They got screwed, plain and simple, so it's nice to see some justice prevail here.

Its probably as a collection of talent the USA team is that much higher than the rest of the world. The rest of the world makes it up by having better complimentary players.

During his 3 barrage, Steph kept looking at Draymond and saying "Don't worry bout me."

I saw something on social media where her "performance" was shown with the Seinfeld theme music playing in the background. Loved it!

They made the decision on a tecnicality.

They are saying Chiles’ coach didn’t appeal in time. Not that the appeal was wrong, but it wasn’t in time.

It was supposed to be made within 1 min but it was made in 1:04 min.

4 sec too late.

Also, found these on reddit:

Quote:
Also worth mentioning all gymnasts get 4 minutes to appeal, except chiles because she was the last performer, she only got 1 minute. So the appeal was made at 1 minute and 4 seconds, so while technically “late” it would’ve been within the timeframe for every other gymnast. Kinda bullshjt she gets less time just because it’s at the end.

Quote:
What’s annoying is that because she went last is why she had only 1 minute. Whereas every other competitor had until the person after them completed their routine (3 mins). The rules are wild

Quote:
It that even a reasonable timeframe to be able to get the score sheet, review it, find a discrepancy, and then get to the judges to initiate an appeal within 60 seconds? That seems like there's an appeals process on paper to say that there is one but in practice almost impossible to engage.

Losing the 4x100 men’s relay and the women down double digits against France isn’t helping

Looks like the USA will escape with a W. France tried to tie with the 3 ball that never hit.

USA survives 67-66, France's desperate attempt to tie the game doesn't succeed because the last score was a 2.
