Pathetic lol. Imagine thinking that article is a winner catch all besides confirming your own biases. So, erase actually watching his career that’s been over for how long now.. this article solves the mystery! Lol. Willing to bet Kobe gets take top 5 in 99% all time drafts and Duncan falls out of the 10th.

Well excel spreadsheets, formulas and advanced statistics are one hell of a confirmation to have though.

Id take that over what you guys are leaning on: the Eye Test, emotion and the opinions of former Lakers.

Not really. They're just one way of analyzing information. It's not some irrefutable catch-all. Most advanced stats are formulas created by human beings with their own biases and philosophies on how the game should be played and how stats should be weighted in order to determine impact.

And if you actually studied the history and evolution of advanced stats you would know that they are constantly evolving, changing and our understanding of them. There was a time when PER was considered the "God" advanced stat to determine a players impact. Fast-forward to now and PER is hardly used and even looked down on in favor of other advanced stats.

Advanced stats are there to provide a more nuanced analysis in contrast to eye-test, emotions, and reputation. But they are not meant to be the end-all-be-all. Because many advanced stats lack context, have problematic blindspots and don't take into account intangibles that can't be quantified as easily.

And another one...

One player who might also probably take up a spot in many people’s all-time starting five is Anfernee “Penny” Hardaway. Often mentioned among the most exciting players ever by his peers, the Orlando Magic legend was asked to return the favor in the form of choosing his all-time starting five.

“I’ll say myself, Shaq[uille O’Neal], MJ [Michael Jordan], Bron [LeBron James] and, Kobe [Bryant],” Hardaway told GQSports.

I dont think Penny would take a spot in anyone's all-time starting five other than himself. That said Penny was the best point guard in the NBA for a 2 year stretch from 1994/95 to 1995/96 where he was better than Gary Payton and John Stockton. If only Joe Dumars didnt change his career trajectory and if only he could have teamed with Kobe in the Lakers backcourt that he always wanted. That would have been the real Backcourt 2000 with Penny and Kobe.

Was that an actual possibility of happening? And what does Joe Dumars have to do with it? Just curious.

All his knee injuries started when Dumars and Penny bumped knees in the '96 playoffs or more specifically Dumars knee smashing into the back of Penny's knee. From then on it just went from bad (needing rest but continuing to play on the knee throughout the '96 playoffs) to the absolute worst (microfracture surgery). In terms of possibility of it happening. I remember it was discussed twice. Once during the 1997/1998 season when the earliest murmurs came out that Penny would leave Orlando similar to Shaq and then it became really loud after the lockout season when Penny personally reached out to Jerry West and Shaq to request a sign and trade to the Lakers. LA was ALWAYS Penny's first choice (Phoenix was just a backup choice who could pay him) and both West and Shaq wanted him in LA. Glen Rice (as a strong player at the time and means to match salaries) was not their cup of tea however as Rice wanted a long term deal and Orlando was saving its cap space for the summer of 2000 to get Duncan/Hill - hence the poo-poo platter for the sign and trade with Penny.

I don't think that would've been a possibility given the rift between Penny and Shaq at the time. Plus, the fit would've been poor given both were ball-dominant and West was hell-bent on featuring Kobe not wanting to stunt his growth -- which is why we traded Eddie Jones....begging the question how that backcourt would've panned out......Kobe and EJ in the triangle would've been nice.

The crazy thing is that bron needs his agent doing media tours telling everyone he’s the goat. We never knew or heard from Kobe’s agent. Or TDS. Even Amato wasn’t vocal about shaq. Rosenhaus did it for contracts. Klutch does it because of insecurity

also:
why the "goat" letting the real goat live rent free?
