I think this guy could be special.

I watched him play a couple games in college and at times, he had some Kobe / Eddie Jones type moments shooting and going to the basket.

Hope he finds a spot and gets to develop with the Lakers.

Good time to also remind folks that we’ve maxed out our opening night roster spots already. We already got 15 guaranteed contracts on the main roster and 3 2way players signed. As a result, any exhibit 9/10 player is at best a roster add if we waive /stretch any of our 15 guaranteed guys to have a dead cap hit applied to our cap/tax sheet and officially go above the 2nd Apron line, which could be problematic if we ever trigger it (ie aggregation trade of any sort, trading away cash and/or our ‘31 FRP, etc) during the season.

We are currently 45k away from the 2nd Apron, so having a vet min dead cap hit + adding another vet min deal to the books, has us roughly 2m above the 2nd Apron and paying an additional 8.5m in taxes bringing our projected total tax bill to 65m+.

So is this guy or any training camp fodder worth roughly 4m in salary (both active & dead cap) & 17m in additional associated taxes? (Cause that’s how’s management will see it.)

It’s most likely that once training camp concludes, we see these guys on the South Bay roster if they remain associated to the Lakers in any way.

Sending your resume to Rob, so you can show him what time it is! We need you to help him out.

Very true. Looks like Rob has tried to make some small trade occur that would
somehow help but apparently nothing of value that is viable. Fantasy
trades aside.

2-ways get swapped out all the time. It's a 2-way audition as a serious underdog.

Let's talk about him here as he's actually deserving of the attention.

Quincy Olivary Highlights

Here's something ya'll need to understand. He's the same size as a Jrue Holiday and Derrick White kind of player. He also has a similar wingspan AND outrebounded them in college.

He's 6'3 and averaged 19 points in college in his senior year at Xavier after averaging 18.7 the previous year.

He shot 42% from the field but 41% from three and for his entire college career shot 38% from three so that's always been there.

His final college season he shot 7.6 threes a game and made them at a 41% rate. Did I mention he also averaged 1.4 steals and was known to be a pest on the defensive end?

The only reason he fell to us was because he was a multiple year college kid and NBA "scouts" seem to have something against multi-year college kids.

He's a prospect we SHOULD have locked up for development and put on more than an exhibit 10 deal. But all his potential he could show us has been wasting away on the bench while we were trying to forcefeed minutes to an undeserving Bronny James.

Redick talked about how Quincy had been there training since August, and how he'd been finishing first in shooting and scoring the most in every shooting drill they had and were having. He was doing everything right and performing at a high level since the light days of camp. Yet despite outperforming at such a level and 'doing it the right way' from August till now with the team he'd been being kept on the bench and not playing, and we all know why.

This is who's been being left on the bench for sake of Bronny.

Quincy Olivary has got to make this team. That means someone will have to go and it won’t be Bronny. I think it’s gotta be Cam Reddish or Maxwell Lewis. I think they’ll give someone a 2nd round pick to absorb Reddish’s contract. Lewis has upside even though he’s not progressing as I would like. Alternatively you could cut one of the two-ways, probably Traore, and make Olivary one of your two ways. It will be interesting to see what happens.

Assuming it's true that this guy has to make the team at all costs, I think it's most likely to happen through a two-way than an official roster spot. If we're cutting Cam or Maxwell, it's to get actual NBA vets in.

Quincy had a real show-stopping preseason game. And, I'm both happy for him, as well as intrigued by his potential. All that said, I'm not ready to jump on the Olivary hype train, just yet. He reminds he a lot of Andrew Goudelock, who was touted as being the next "Kobe-type" player for the Lakers...and, we saw how that turned out.

Let's let Quincy show us more, before we put him on a pedestal, that he hasn't earned.

The guy scored 11 points in garbage time of a preseason game against other third-stringers. We're getting a little carried away here. With that said, he's way better than Bronny.

Andrew Goudelock in todays league would thrive. Gotta remember Goudelock was still around during an era where the general consensus was that if you were just an undersized scorer unless you were Iverson level you had to be a point guard or you'd never pan out or you wouldn't be given the opportunity to.

Nowadays combo guards are seen as standard and are more common than the pure point guards. The NBA changed when the Warriors won that Championship and created a dynasty. If Goudelock was coming around now he'd be touted the same way a Buddy Hield was.

Yep. Happy for him. If not with the Lakers I hope something works out for him in the league.

If Koloko gets cleared they will probably make moves to get him a roster spot. This two way deal is probably so nobody else can touch him in the meantime. Once they do that they will probably give olivary the two-way spot. As much as I liked the other two-way rook we cut, this guy had a better chance of being a defender. He’s fast, he gives a lot of effort, and can shoot.

tbh- I am surprised bron/pelinka let JJ play him. I am sure klutch/bron had a conversation after the fact telling JJ that playing guys who actually belong will be a bad look for jr. I have a feeling we wont see much, if any of QO again unless Jr makes a couple of early plays.

If Bronny had played the way Quincy did the media-sphere would blow up.
