Young man has earned a roster spot. Sadly, probably won’t get it with the Lakers.
Only so many spots available for the developmental players role. He has a major obstacle in front of him with Make -a-Wish James.
Both have similar roles on the end of the bench. Both are considered “great stories”. One makes an impact on the floor, one sells jerseys.
Does not take much imagination to understand which one gets the nod.
I have a feeling if the Lakers don’t sign him, someone else will And the Lakers could end regretting this a few years down the road and maybe even this year
IMO the issue is not whether Olivary develops into a NBA player or not.
It is more about the idiotic situation that has developed. We have a player that has earned an opportunity by working his butt off and impacting on the court. The other pre-ordained. And he has proven to be exactly what most believed him to be before re the draft. A marginal talent with the better storyline and last name.
Roster spots are limited. Only so many undersized guards can get signed and developed. They have to save spots for other positions and roles. Unfortunately for Olivary he will always be behind Make-a-Wish no matter how hard he works.

The Los Angeles Lakers are signing Quincy Olivari to a two-way NBA contract, his agent Darrell Comer told me and @mcten. Incredible story for the Lakers' undrafted rookie out of Xavier who earns roster spot after standout preseason. Lakers are waiving center Colin Castleton.

Oh (bleep) I called it! So happy for the man and glad we’re keeping him. Didn’t make sense to have two centers with the Koloko signing. Castleton didn’t make the leap we thought he should have at his age. I wish him the best though. _________________ “like I never left”

Great call. Castleton has had several chances and has not progressed. _________________ Darvin Ham is an idiot!

It's not that Castleton hasn't progressed. He has. It's that he hasn't progressed to be an NBA level player/center.
He'd either need more size, better shooting, or better defense.
He's essentially a very good G-League talent but against NBA competition he's a step beneath what he needs to be to stay there.

At least out of Hinton, Traore, Castleton and Oliveri… I would’ve picked Traore (this dude is athletic mobile big) and Oliveri _________________ “The main goal for the Lakers is to win a championship. All I care about, all we care about, is to raise another banner in the rafters.“
Anyone know the implications? Like the Lakers are over the 2nd apron now ??
Does that mean a DLo trade is out of the question ? B
2-way contracts don't count against the cap.
Only standard contracts _________________ LBJ + AD = More rings

Curry spending the time with him last night and everything that was said, especially as Curry was his favorite player.
I hope it put in the Lakers minds "If you don't sign Quincy... the Warriors will, and Steph will take him under his wing. Do ya'll want that to happen?"
Now we develop Quincy and get him ready for a role on our team and in the NBA. Ya'll need to understand how special this kid could be with the right development at NBA speed.

I just read this on the X. Great news! Congrats Quincy!
LOL...
Most people I've known, or heard of, whose first name starts with Q are nicknamed "Q" (or Que)
but, I just saw a funny one for Quincy
"Q-dini" or just Qdini _________________ LBJ + AD = More rings
