Damn. I wanted Mad Max to get a ring with the Dodgers.

Greed is good but it's not likely Max would accept the 6th spot in our rotation. He's a true alpha and career long ace after all so Toronto offered him all that due to sheer desperation on their part and Max bit.

Updated 40-man roster plus projected 26-man opening day roster:

Quote:
Projected Opening Day 26-man roster:

Position Players:
1) Shohei Ohtani (DH)
2) Mookie Betts (SS)
3) Freddie Freeman (1B)
4) Teoscar Hernández (RF)
5) Max Muncy (3B)
6) Will Smith (C)
7) Michael Conforto (LF)
8) Tommy Edman (CF)
9) Hyeseong Kim (2B)

10) Miguel Rojas (Bench)
11) Austin Barnes (Bench)
12) Chris Taylor (Bench)
13) Andy Pages (Bench)

Starting Pitchers:
**** Roki Sasaki (not on the 40-man roster yet)
14) Tyler Glasnow
15) Blake Snell
16) Yoshinobu Yamamoto
17) Dustin May
18) Tony Gonsolin

Relievers:
19) Anthony Banda
20) Kirby Yates
21) Michael Kopech
22) Evan Phillips
23) Blake Treinen
24) Alex Vesia
25) Tanner Scott
26) Brusdar Graterol

So right now, we have 27 players projected to make the opening day roster. (once Sasaki gets added to the 40-man).

We're going to have to trim it to 26.

Either:

Quote:
1) Graterol starts the season on the IL, or

2) Gonsolin gets optioned to AAA. We probably don't need 6 starters in the first month, and Gonsolin still has options, so Gonsolin might get optioned to start the year.

Also, if we sign Kike, then Pages will be optioned to the minors (unless we get rid of CT3).

Quote:
The Rest of the 40-man roster:

Likely Optioned to Minor Leagues:
27) Ben Casparius
28) Jack Dreyer
29) Michael Grove
30) Edgardo Henriquez
31) Landon Knack
32) Bobby Miller
33) Justin Wrobleski
34) Hunter Feduccia
35) James Outman

Likely Put on IL (opens up on Feb 10th):
36) Nick Frasso
37) Kyle Hurt
38) River Ryan
39) Gavin Stone
40) Emmet Sheehan

So on Feb 10th, we’ll open up 5 roster spots.

The Athletic’s article on the Dodgers’ decision to release Ryan Brasier:

Quote:
Rationalizing the Ryan Brasier decision in the crowded Dodgers bullpen

Fabian Ardaya
Jan 31, 2025

………….

Just 12 months ago, the Dodgers signed Ryan Brasier to a two-year, $9 million deal that represented just the eighth multiyear free-agent contract Friedman has ever given to a reliever. Thursday, Brasier was designated for assignment, a reliever eliminated from a crowded picture.

………..

That left Brasier — who is owed $4.5 million this year plus incentives — as the one getting cut. Brasier remained every bit of an effective reliever a year ago, trusted enough to start multiple bullpen games last October and putting together a 3.54 ERA (with better underlying numbers) in 29 appearances despite missing months with a calf strain. At the price, he still appeared to be a relative bargain.

The Dodgers could have looked elsewhere to clear a 40-man roster spot and simply kicked the can on a decision until spring, when injuries (with Los Angeles or elsewhere) could’ve provided a more clear-cut need for Brasier. A seven-man Opening Day bullpen will expand to eight whenever Shohei Ohtani joins the rotation.

Instead, they cut Brasier now rather than sacrifice an optionable reliever and flexibility in the future.

Quote:
“We would’ve needed a roster spot in some way, shape or form,” Gomes said.

The Dodgers had reportedly been shopping Brasier as they finalized a deal with Yates and can continue to do so over the next few days. It would certainly behoove the Dodgers to find a trade partner or someone who would claim the last year of Brasier’s deal; after all, they are far enough over the competitive balance tax threshold that they will have to pay a 110 percent overage in addition to Brasier’s $4.5 million.

Brasier’s recent production would make him a strong fit for a contender. But at least one rival evaluator was skeptical of the Dodgers’ ability to find a trade partner, particularly when clubs could conceivably wait until he’s released and sign him for the league minimum.

The relief market has moved in recent days, with Scott and Yates coming off the board along with others, such as Carlos Estévez and Tommy Kahnle. Others remain unsigned, such as former Dodger Kenley Jansen and veteran closer David Robertson.

Yeah, this article is kind of like my conversation with ChickenStu.

It says on one hand, Brasier might be a good bargain at $4.5M. But on the other hand, the Dodgers’ have already tried to trade him with no takers so his market might be really cold. Teams know they can wait and sign him cheap after he’s released.

Shohei Ohtani could be just four months away from his Los Angeles Dodgers pitching debut.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Saturday that Ohtani returning to the mound in May "sounds about right," per Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic.

According to Ardaya, Ohtani said his recovery from offseason surgery on his non-throwing left shoulder remains on schedule.

Shouldn't be 4 months if he's returning in May, unless it's all the way at the end of May. If it's at the beginning of May (which I'm hoping), then that's 3 months away (Feb, Mar, Apr).

Not encouraging re: Kiké returning as Friedman made it sound like it's out of his hands and rests all on Kiké now and they could trade for him again if he signs elsewhere.

That's a great sign to me.

If it's all on Kike, he's said already that he wants to remain with the Dodgers. So if it's in his hands, he'll be a Dodger.

Just found this interesting tidbit:

Quote:
May has over five years of service time and can refuse any minor league assignment.

Gonsolin has an option year remaining, but he was last optioned in 2020. He could technically be optioned, but if he’s not sent down would only need 20 more days to accrue five full years of service time, which would then give him the right to refuse any minors assignment.

So I've mentioned that May is out of options, so he'll be on the opening day roster.

I knew that Gonsolin had one more option year. I didn't know that he was 20 days away from reaching 5 yrs of service. I don't know if what they're saying is true, but it's interesting.

Now the question is, once we send him down before he accrues his 5 yrs of service, can we continue to send him down throughout the year? It's definitely interesting.

Just hoping the team is showing the public it's poker face again like they did with Teoscar about their importance on resigning these valuable FA's.

I'm honestly not sure we want (or have the room) to re-sign Kike.

So Friedman saying it's in Kike's court sounds like he's saying the door is open. The offer is on the table.

Either that or they gave him a super low-ball offer. I just don't think we'd treat him that poorly to lowball him. So, if it's a legit offer and the ball is in his court, that's a good sign to me.

I've said all along that I think Kike has already agreed to return and they are working on freeing up a space for him.

After hearing Andrew speak, I believe it even more now. Our boy will be coming back, and it will be glorious

AF offering $4m like last year or maybe $5-6 max. Kiké probably wants $8m or a 2/14.

Is it possible they offered him a minor league contract, due to the space crunch in the roster?

For pure speculation, I'd say it could be possible with an understanding, this is just procedural and he would never actually play in the minors.

(In other news, I bet you are, and have been, just a wee bit busy over in the Lounge with about a billion posts since late yesterday. I guess there is some big news or something)

What a roster. Only hole in this roster is on the bench and that's Taylor.

We have it all covered. We have MVP caliber bats from the left and right. We even have a switch hitter that knows how to get on base. We also have Cy Young caliber lefty and right handed pitchers. Seriously what's missing? We have a guy that can come in from the pen to throw against the best left handed batter (Soto) at any given situation.

All star game should be AL vs Dodgers.

It’s either a money thing, a years thing, or a cover. And if it’s the latter, I mean we have a deal for him to comeback but he cannot make the decision until we have the roster space

Gotta believe Graterol starts on the IL. I’d also rather bring Kike and option May so he can build up before going back into the majors. I’d rather trust Gonsolin, who is a regular season ace, to play right away over Dustin.

Freaking CT3. Thanks for the memories but burning up a key spot my guy.
