Kinda disagree with everybody here. I think this trade balances the roster which maximizes AD, allowing the season to go forward even with injured Vando/Wood. We still have AR and Rui for lateral move type of trades next season. If we’re doing this farewell tour, might as well go for it

I think the idea of trading away picks to get back former players when you could have just signed him in Schroder, a guy you did give a pick to acquire in his first stint... it is very inefficient and on brand with Pelinka regime. 2 picks to acquire Westbrook, 1 pick to get rid of Westbrook. It is nauseating.

To be fair, most of the talk around giving up 1st round picks to get back former players like Kuzma, Schroder.. so far, has been the thoughts of writers. I just hope it doesn't come true. Lebron and AD are a desert mirage, and Laker fans are thirsty.

Schroeder was traded for Melton who is out for the season and 3 second round picks…maybe you’re factoring in a Lakers tax on trades but…it didn’t cost a FRP. A healthy Vincent + a healthy JHS and a 2ndRP looks like it would have been an acceptable offer.

Rob would have never traded for Schroeder, even if that was the cost. It would have been too embarrassing for him to trade assets for the player he let walk twice.

I suspect he didn't talk to Chicago about Caruso for that same reason. It would have been an admission of failure.

Did about half of what I wrote - they absolutely wanted Dennis and discussed a deal for him - so that last post about it being embarrassing isn't based on the situation

I’m skeptical of Rob, he’s like the Westbrook of GMs. He’ll do something good to show talent then blow a layup like…not offering a package for Schroeder that is better than a player out for the season in DMilton, still under contract next year without having to use a FRP…missing on Schroeder.

My fear is that Rob just upgraded for fan service in this deal…getting rid of an unpopular Dlo with fans and the coach…and won’t do anything else.

They (Westbrook/Rob) seem to mix in good actions with mind numbing mistakes. Let’s see if Rob can put two winning plays together in a row and get a legitimate C. That has been a deficiency on the Lakers since the deadline trade two years ago yet still not addressed.

The Westbrook of GMs? 😀😀 you killing me! 😆😆

Ok so NOT giving up a 1st is a good thing… a really good thing!!
OTOH: I’d think the pressure is now on JJ to assimilate these two into winning rotations without messing up the chemistry (whatever exists)

Westbrook of GMs, glad you liked it lol! It’s my fear tho, what you stated, that Rob thinks his job is done and that it’s now on JJ.

The same problem that existed when Dlo/Beasley/Vando first joined the team in the trade is still the problem now. It’s not on JJ atm, it’s still on Rob to fix a problem that he acknowledged exists, and that he committed to fixing. He said it publically, that he wanted, and that the Lakers needed a C, to extend AD’s career by reducing some of the time he spends banging at the C. Also, he said publically that LBJ committed to the Lakers and that he (Rob) should commit to building the best championship opportunity possible by using the picks as a response.

It’s on Rob, to get a legitimate back up C that can play with/without AD and provide productivity sufficient enough that the Lakers don’t continually lose ground when AD isn’t on the court. Sadly, I expect…after a brilliant defensive play to get a steal…a turnover, or missed layup, or a bricked 3pt with 15sec on the shot clock at the end of the game with 30sec left up by 3, and then use an excuse that it’s the tough CBA and he was going for the 2 for 1.
