The Charlotte Hornets Ruined A Child’s Christmas And Then Immediately Had To Apologize For It

The Charlotte Hornets of the NBA had to issue an apology recently after a promotion gone wrong that ruined a child’s Christmas. Somehow, it adds insult to injury to an already disappointing season for the Hornets and their fans.

The incident occurred during Charlotte’s 121-108 loss to the Philadelphia 76ers on Monday night. At one point during a stoppage in play, the team invited a ticket holder and his nephew onto the court as part of a promotion. They asked the child what he wanted for Christmas, to which he answered a PS5.

At that point, Charlotte’s mascot, Buzz, pulled a PlayStation 5 out of a bag and handed it to the child. But there was just one problem. After the segment, officials asked for the game console back and instead gave him a Hornets jersey.

Charlotte Hornets Issue Statement After Ruining Kid’s Christmas With PS5 Gaffe
If that is not the most Grinch-like thing you’ve ever seen, we don’t know what to tell you. The team issued a statement the very next day addressing the nightmare skit gone wrong.

During last night’s game there was an on-court skit that missed the mark. The skit included bad decision making and poor communication. Simply put, we turned the ball over and we apologize. We have reached out to the family and are committed to not only making it right but to exceeding expectations. We will be providing the fan with the PS5 that he should have taken home last night along with a VIP experience to a future game. Our goal is and will remain to elevate the guest experience for every person that enters Spectrum Center, and to show our fans how much we appreciate their relentless support.

After addressing the issue, Charlotte decided that the kid will get to keep the PS5 and will also receive a VIP experience at a future game. Though we do have to wonder why anybody would remain a fan of the team at that point. Charlotte currently sits at 7-19, the fifth-worst record in the NBA. The Hornets have finished with a winning record just twice in the last decade. So in addition to hating children, the team is just downright bad.

Maybe it’s time for that kid to find a bandwagon he jump on? And now he can play NBA 2K on his PS5 to learn all about whatever team he chooses.

Why not just give the kid a lump of coal? I don't know what the idea was but was it worth for all that bad publicity over a $500 PS5.
