Should have been an easy win, some REALLY questionable calls this time around.
All things considered, mad respect to:
Max Christie for 28 points when defense is his calling card, awesome to see!!!!
LeBron for scoring 38 after turning 40.
Austin Reaves for the way he's throwing his all into this. Poor shooting didn't deter him, he played with a ton of grit, filled the stat sheet because of this, really happy to see his effort.
I also thought Koloko had a decent game, considering where he's been this season so far this was a good outing.
All in all the Lakers won a game they clearly should have won, it shouldn't have been this close, but then again I didn't know forcing an opponent to foul could mean doing so by literally pushing him into your teammate, or that blocking a shot can be called goaltending if the ref feels like that adds drama, regardless of where the ball is on it's path to the rim.
I think Que Loco is making Hayes expendable, they do similar stuff. Rui needs to board, period _________________ “The main goal for the Lakers is to win a championship. All I care about, all we care about, is to raise another banner in the rafters.“

Not really a close game imo... Refs kept the Blazers in it.
Yeah, this felt like a blowout even though they came within three at the end. _________________ Damian Lillard shatters Dwight Coward's championship dreams:

The two goaltending calls were just baffling. I like these gritty wins with half the team missing. LeBron, Max, both out big guys, Austin (despite some of those head-scratching three pointers) were all great. I liked the effort DFS brought on defense, but he'll have to offer more offensively. Rui gets a pass because he was scorching hot for so long. I'm sure he'll find his groove again.
Koloko/Hayes/CWood = Whatever players considered as a backup Big at a far less price and without making additional trades to replace players that would have to be included in any trade?
Who will be the additional player that has good handles - Quincy????
Will Vando be up to full speed after the ASG?
Look forward to when Knecht getting his 3pt stroke. It is good that he has many other skills that makes him valuable while still having "gravity" to attract opposing teams' defenders
When will Rui figure how to consistently make a tangible impact in games. Seems like he shows up when LBJ isn't able to play since he is not effective as a Small 5?

It seems to make sense at first glance…AD/Hayes/Koloko/Wood…existing players manning the C, but if Rui/LBJ are used at C then the roster is deficient and needs an upgrade. Wood is expendable. I don’t think he can be counted on as part of the plan with his mysteriously lengthy absence and woeful lack of production when he did play last year.
When AD is out the Lakers shouldn’t have to use LBJ/Rui out of position, Rui is so much more productive when he doesn’t have to play C or play with LBJ at the C. This is especially true with $28.6m in expendable players…Vincent/Vando/JHS/Wood…and draft picks available to be used in an upgrade.
Imagine the potential had that $28.6m been used in the Dlo deal…plus a FRP…to get Claxton, or if Rob had struck earlier to include Schroeder/Sharpe for Vincent/JHS in the trade for DFS/Shake. _________________ When it’s a reasonable possibility, I expect the Lakers to go after a ship like it can’t be denied. I haven’t seen a respectable effort by the Front Office for the last two off seasons nor the last trade deadline. What is going on?

The Nets only wanted expiring Ks so I don't think they've would've gone for a Dennis/Gabe swap. _________________ Luxury Tax/FA Spreadsheet (Save to your Google Drive to edit)

Good Points
This team, which is basically the same teams as last year - at this time, are now actually winning games that they lost last year.
Rob is dealing with multiple considerations when making a move
* financially, before the last trade, they were very limited. The DFS/Shake/DLo trade gives them a little wiggle room ($3+M)
* do they have enough depth to replace players that need to be included in any trade
* what other trades need to be in place to have a better team - when everything is done
* maintaining chemistry and continuity to have a better roster since making wholesale changes often doesn’t work
* existing contracts of other teams and on the Lakers that are expiring since Rob has to consider this team’s future.
Maybe the Rui/LBJ was used by JJ because he trusts them more to win last night game with the Trailblazers. On paper there are bad teams but on any given night - these type of teams will beat good teams (as seen last night when the Nets beat the Bucks, along with this happening many times with the Lakers last year)
With Koloko having a DNP on the last game and Hayes’ first action after not playing for 5+ weeks, one is not sure of how effective they would be and for how long. Never disrespect any NBA team, it will bite you in the A…
Later in the season, JJ will have more choices to adapt to the opposing team and/or options to see which combinations are effective.
The top teams have depth and available options to use, elite teams have far less of a need for depth because of the type of players they have.
Cavs are 5+ games of the Cs and undefeated against the Western Conference, where there are few bad teams

QueLoco had a great game and it was great to see but Hayes just got back from an injury and sometimes QL looks like a lost puppy out there lol. So I'm not willing to pass the mic to him permanently just yet.
