Speaking on BBC One's Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg programme, he described sending a client to visit a property where the landlord had previously been asking for $13,000 per month in rent.
"[My client] offered $20,000 a month and he offered to pay six months upfront and the landlord said 'I want $23,000'," he said.

Wow these winds really aren't stopping are they? It seemed like last year we had much more frequent santa ana wind events. I pay special attention to the winds because I have a pool and it seems like this past year I'd finish cleaning the pool after a high wind event, then we'd have another one a few weeks later.
Now this current wind event is not stopping. Supposedly going to go on for the better part of this week. Really awful how difficult this is for everybody and it seems like it is getting worse. Stay safe everybody

A large enough fire, particularly a wildfire, can create its own wind system, essentially generating wind through the intense heat rising and creating an updraft that pulls in cooler air, a phenomenon often called a "firestorm" where the fire sustains its own wind patterns; this can lead to fire whirls and other extreme weather effects. _________________ Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.

People that are out there to make a buck with these fire victims should all go straight to hell.
If insurance companies raise rates, owners raising rents, if prices of goods go up, etc., may all responsible go straight to hell and burn there.

All true, but this the Santa Ana winds themselves. It's windy well outside the fire zone. That's the problem; as soon as they get close to making real progress, the winds increase and shift. _________________ "You know it seems the more we talk about it, it only makes it worse to live without it."

The wind is howling here, gusts up to 70 mph. We’ve been camping at the beach since Thursday and the motorhome was bombarded with palm fronds. I’m more worried about another fire starting _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023.

Two words. CLIMATE CHANGE My wish is for politicians who are blaming instead of offering solutions to stop and lend resources at their disposal to help fight the fire and address climate change. I don't know if the Santa Ana's are the reason I can see a bluer sky and mountains but the sky is clearer. _________________ Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.

Climate change amplifies already existing weather patterns and sends them to new extremes for more extended periods of time. Droughts get worse and for longer. Winds get more intense and for longer periods. It's everything that already existed but amped up to new extremes and interacting in new and often unpredictable ways. _________________ Don't blame me. The fact that there isn't wall to wall local coverage anymore indicates that the firefighters are getting a better handle of the fire.
Don't discount the need for the local stations to get back to generating lost ad revenue . . . _________________ "You know it seems the more we talk about it, it only makes it worse to live without it."
Still unable to access the road leading to my GFs apartment. Fires have died down there but I believe they are sweeping the area and making sure buildings are accessible and safe. She has reached out to her neighbors and they are all doing well and made it out safely.
They asked each other if they had heard from their landlord who is notorious for taking her sweet time addressing tenants maintenance issues and fixing problems on the property, but when rent time rolls around she's asking for it non-stop before the day even gets started. Texts, phone calls, emails.
They BARELY heard from her on Saturday. One of the tenants asked if she was ok and if she had heard anything about the property and her response was.... "Sorry it's the early morning here, Im on vacation in Europe, I'll be back in 10 days." Nothing since. What a pos. _________________ "No amount of money ever bought a second of time."

My sister isn't allowed into her area at all (not that there's anything left of her house to go to) and her insurance advocate (BTW, this is apparently a thing, a mediator between victims and their insurance companies to make sure that you get everything you are entitled to and in as timely a fashion as possible) is being told it probably won't be for at least a week because of security concerns and toxins in the air and that will have settled on the ground.

Yeah, her neighbors across the street are a really cool older couple that have a home that they have lived in for quite some time. Pretty much said the same. I believe their home was spared.
Sorry to hear about your sis, DMR. Hopefully everyone is at least safe and they can start the recovery process soon. Its gut-wrenching
The past 4 years we would walk thru the neighborhoods nearby and see the Xmas lights and awesome decorations at many of the homes in the area. We were literally just there a few weeks ago and all that is gone now. Some of the restaurants and shops we visit on a weekly basis are just ashes now. It's unreal. _________________ "No amount of money ever bought a second of time."

Never faced this scenario but if you're a renter and your placed burned down what happens? You're not liable to continue to make payments right? _________________ KOBE

I'm not certain. That's why I think the tenants were all trying to get some clarity/reassurance from the landlord but she only seems concerned with her Euro trip.

^^Landlord can't find any damage the renter might have caused so I would say you can negate the lease and get your full deposit back asap
I am guessing California has fairly sane renters protection laws
Not sure how much Renters Insurance covers for people like JJ who were renting iirc and had moved most every possession in utnil they found a place to buy

I just got home from Solvang and the smoke and ash from the Hughes fire is so thick you can’t open your windows. Parts of the street look like it has a thin layer of snow on it. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023.

KCAL is reporting 5,000+ acres burned. Is your home in the evacuation zone? _________________ Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.
