A super odd, but throughly interesting filmmaker who left an indelible mark on 80's and 90's pop culture:

David Lynch, visionary filmmaker behind ‘Twin Peaks’ and ‘Mulholland Drive,’ dies at 78

A little personal story here: When Lynch was studying at the American Film Institute and making Eraserhead, my mom was working there. He stored the goat embryo that makes its iconic appearance in the film in the same refrigerator my mom kept her lunch in!

I remember watching Lost Highway as a teen and shutting it off about halfway through. I couldn't grasp wtf was going on. I just seem to remember one jarring scene and then a quick cut to another weird scene and so on. lol

same experience when i rented twin peaks from the wherehouse as a 9 year old because they had just put it on the shelf as a new release while I was in there. I was obviously not the intended audience for Lynch's perversion, so it boggled me from the get go, and when that kid danced away from his locker, I hit eject, and biked back to wherehouse to return the tape.

One of the GOATS. Such a unique and visionary artist. He was attuned to a singular soundscape that only he heard and I cherish him for having done his best to share it with us.

I actually re-watched Lost Highway recently on the 4K Criterion release. Amazing director, and he’ll be missed. RIP.

You’re not kidding! One of the best 4K transfers I’ve ever seen. Absolutely flawless in every way.

I vaguely recall a scene where someone is maybe running inside a house and they trip and land head first into a glass coffee table and end up gashing the top of their head on the edge of the table and (I assume) dying.
I wish I could have seen my facial expressions during that movie. Would have been priceless.

And also a scene where the main character is at a party and the creepy dude walks up to him and has him call himself at his house. Wtf. Creeped me out

I remember watching Mulholland Drive like I was studying for an exam. It was worth it.

I was in the hospital on heavy doses of Demerol when Twin Peaks premiered. I remember watching the second episode the next week at home and thinking, “it wasn’t just being out of my mind tripping on opiates that made this do crazy.”
