Mavs did all the work for him. Luka fell on his lap. There were no prior recruitment or talks. All he had to is not screw it up.
Now he gets to keep his job for a lot longer. You trust him to build around Luka without getting lucky? |
I trust him more now that it seems like Klutch isn't the head of the snake- Everything is an unknown when its come to players but Luka for AD is a steal for us. especially since we weren't a contender. _________________ https://www.instagram.com/reel/DDfvXWXvpeb/?igsh=NTc4MTIwNjQ2YQ== |

Strangely enough, the team has the same needs: a center and a 2 way guard/wing. But the holes they would fill are much greater and the ceiling if acquired would be much higher. |

I’d think the mavs asked for the other FRP and swaps, maybe AR,and I wonder how rob kept the other assets? Telling the mavs to take it or leave it? |

Pelinka needs to build around Luka quick, because he has a player option and no super max to keep him here if we aren’t good next season and he goes into free agency wondering about how he’s going to compete in LA. |
Yes, what happens next matters. Luka is a great offensive player but as we saw against the Celtics with strong wings, he got played off the floor on defense. Pelinka will need to fill holes with hiding Luka defensively. It won’t be easy. Or management can light the victory cigar and sit back doing little while the money continues to pour in. We will see. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023. |

And now the assets are less, making it more difficult. We shouldn’t judge this move only on this season. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023. |

I think that trading Luka for a top 10 player in the game, top 3 defensive player all star plus a future first round pick was a good deal for them. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023. |

He got played off the court by playing 40 minutes a game? Luka is an average defender by the numbers, you certainly can’t put him on opposing team’s best players or quick guards, but he can hold his own against most players. Let’s not get carried away. |

Sure, don’t you think the mavs asked? Even if they start a conversation, they can’t just say, “we are good with one pick”
If we are talking about a 26 year old AD and a 26 year old Luka, that’s a different story, but AD is 32 |

The area Pelinka earns his stripes are not with these sort of moves. It's if he's able to build around the star. As easy it sounds, it's been shown Pelinka has often not built well around AD/Lebron. Most recently AD was saying he always wanted to be starting at 4. So when you take into account that even with AD/Bron the team was not often balanced post trading for Westbrook, I will only commend him if he shows some actual vision once he has Luka.
If he thinks for example Reaves, Lebron and Luka can win 5 on 5 basketball with 2 role players, he's completely ignoring defense. Right now our team is very unbalanced. Lebron, Luka, Rui, Knecht, DFS. We basically have all wings and a lot of bigger wings. Yet no impact from the 5 and 1 spots defensively (and on offense). So we're far off balance even though we have a lot of talent. I understand that talent wise you make a deal AD for Luka without hesitation it's the right deal on paper. However you only credit from me if after that you go out and build a balanced team.
When he does that then I for sure give him credit. |

I think people using the Doncic trade to be happy with Pelinka isn't the way to go.
He gets no credit for having the heist of the century handed to him on a gold platter.
Literally thats what it was. Nico Harrison doing the dallas Mavericks and their fan base dirty and gifting us a generational talent.
All Rob had to do was accept it.
Lets see how this dude builds around this. Because im not sold on him being able to build a good team. |

I don't think Rob has been a great GM, but if we are going to crucify him over mistakes he makes, we have to also give him props for the moves he does.
There's lots of reasons to discredit him. He's made some big mistakes, and was a part of some other mistakes that he is sometimes given a pass on. But in fairness to him, he's also the GM that traded for Anthony Davis and Luka Doncic. And after the disastrous Westbrook deal, he found a way to salvage something from it with the DLO, Vanderbilt, and Beasley trade.
At the end of the day though he just landed Luka. Had he moved both picks a couple years ago the DLO/Vanderbilt/Beasley trade wouldn't have been possible, and similarly had he taken some of the other deals a lot of us were wanting him to do this season, this may not have been possible. So he deserves some credit. |

This is it right here. Hated on him as much as anyone else for the passiveness the past two years, and particularly last summer when we literally made no additions outside of the draft. But hell, the patience paid off in just about the greatest way imaginable. He may have lucked out with Dallas potentially having lost their collective minds and making the worst move in professional sports history, but I can't hold that against him. He took what was there. And things like letting go of Caruso even before that may have been more on ownership and their willingness to spend than him.
So I'm fairly pro-Rob atm, but the real challenge for him begins now. Apparently for him, it's easy to get the star but damn near impossible for him to build around said star on the fringes to build a lasting contender, lol. He probably gets a C at best for the last go around with Bron/AD, and that's mainly driven by the 2020 title, but he absolutely needs to be much more dialed in this time with Luka. The clock starts ticking now, since it's only a year and a half til that first free agency period... |
