Pau, because he istantly came with 3 Western conference chips, should've been more if lakers trade bynum and artest/odom for Melo after they beat Boston _________________

Gasol. We still traded AD, Christie, and a first. Gasol we got for a sentient pile of garbage that called itself Kwame Brown. Gasol was also available to everyone. Yet we got him for nothing

Or Bynum for Kidd before 07-08 season. _________________ Damian Lillard shatters Dwight Coward's championship dreams:
AD is a superstar. Luka is the better player long term, but AD is a legit two way guy. People acting like this is a fleece are crazy. Mavs are likely to be the better team for the rest of this season, imo. Lakers got holes they need to fill.

Memphis wasn't a heist. They knew what they were doing. It wasn't done often back then so it was strange, but today, teams dump salary all the time, the incentive is the expiring deal.

We got Gasol for Kwame (bleep) Brown. Kwame. (bleep). Brown. Our team was flailing, and this put us over the top to win multiple titles. Kobe, Pau and the Lakers went on a tear immediately.
Luka is great, but we had to give up AD. Luka is likely better than Pau by a ways, but the difference between Luka Doncic and Pau Gasol is not as big as the huge gulf in talent between Anthony Davis and Kwame Brown with his wooden salad fork hands.
From a pure value standpoint, the recent trade has a good argument. With context applied and the benefit of hindsight the current trade has a lot to live up to. 2008 Lakers were already knocking on the door of contention before Pau then 3 finals and 2 chips. Lakers still need to reshape the roster by the deadline in the summer and then when Bron is done.
Bad comparison, the Pau trade may have been the greatest robbery in recent memory
The current deal is still really good value for us, not nearly as much as the Pau deal, but it serves a different purpose _________________ #18 next...
Pau was the bigger heist. But Rob met and exceeded his objectives in getting Luka. Probably a short-term win for the Mavs and a long-term win for the Lakers.
Lakers immediately made the finals and won rings after trading for Pau. It’s going to take longer after trading for Luka, even though Luka is a much better player than Pau was.
