Seems to be a lot of centers in this draft. I can see us buying a pick in the second and finding a gem. Hopefully we will luck out and find someone ready to play asap!

Who here has watched a lot of Cooper Flagg? Is it crazy of me to think he's not a surefire hit? Like Wemby, I can see it easily. Even Zion was easy. His issue is just health and food. LOL! But Cooper's game seems to be a dime a dozen in the history of the game. I've seen KG comparisons, but KG had a prettier and smoother game. Not only that, Cooper is only 6'9. Has anyone compared him to Shareef Abdur Rahim? I think that's a closer comparison in terms of size, but again, Shareef was smooth. NBA draftnet says Scottie Pippen. LOL! I don't see it. I don't think he has the handles to be point forward. I think Larry Johnson more than Pippen. Larry had that power game, and some dribble drive ability. But Larry was 6'7. Anybody remember #1 pick Joe Smith? If Joe played in today's league, he'd probably have a 3-ball like Cooper, and the rest would look very similar in terms of size and athletic ability. Joe couldn't do his thing in the NBA though. Who knows, maybe Cooper Flagg will be the first Cooper Flagg.

I've only seen short clips, but do understand players like Rahim in today's league would be shooting 3s and be much more appreciated. Players back then were seens as "tweeners". SAR didn't have a defined position at the 4 and 3 and that held him back a lot. Now, SAR is focsued on adding a 3 point shot and going to be a stud starting 4. Probably an all-star a few times.

For Cooper, not sure what he'll end up like but Rahim seems like a middle ground for him. I don't think he's KD level good, just based on the physical aspects. However that'd be my guess something in between of Rahim and KD level.

Yeah, Flagg was 17 for half his college season. Won’t turn 19 until damn near January next year. He was scrimmaging with team USA last year at 17!!!!

He will be fine.

To kinda put that in perspective for you even LeBron was still in high school at the same age cooper Flagg is now.

From what I can tell from tankathon:

Charlotte has two early seconds.
Brooklyn has an early second and four firsts so they may not have enough roster spots.
Washington has three seconds, including two mid seconds.
Utah has two mid seconds.
OKC has a mid second and not enough roster spots.

If I had to guess those would be the teams willing to move off a second, but nowadays it seems harder to trade up into the early second since front offices have started to realize that there’s good value since the drop off in talent compared to the late first isn’t that steep.

Anyone know dylan caldwell? I hope we can someone find a way to get this guy. He's really physical downlow and can play above the rim.

Duke winning 2 games without Cooper shows you they have talent. I really wish we can draft a big like Maluach this draft. Much rather take a chance on someone like him than Williams.

Draft is probably the easiest way for us to get a quality big for the longterm. Certainly won't find an immediate starter, but if you value rolling to the rim, rim protection, catching Luka passes, then you can find them in the draft. Take on a longterm project. I guess one could argue that's what Koloko is at the moment.

I don't want to fill a need with what'll be a 2nd rounder we buy. Any young talent that can contribute in 2-4 years would be a huge boon. We don't want to go the way of the Nuggets, Bucks, etc.

Asa Newll
Rasheer Fleeming
Thomas Sorber

Potential 1st round targets if we were to trade into the mid to teen 1st. Knecht?

Amari Williams is a potential UDFA big I might like. Can playmake and protect the rim.

Speculate all you want, but it won't change the fact that he's going to be trade bait for the next big C Rob has on his radar. Whoever they draft will have their bags ready 24/7.

It's a late 2nd round pick. Not exactly great trade bait my guy.

Also I feel like this is said EVERY SINGLE YEAR when in reality, IT NEVER HAPPENS. Literally not a single time has this sorta event happened. Once we draft the player, we keep the player.

That's been our history.

Zu, Clarkson, TB, Bonga, THT, Svi, Christie, Maxwell Lewis...

All of them got traded. Rob is quite efficient and a terminator at trading our picks. Some a bit later but they all go. Bronny will be the only one who stays and everyone knows why.

Would I love for them to develop one and stay with the Lakers long term? Yes but realistically he will be the first one used as bait for a bigger piece to the championship puzzle.

Let's look at the Laker's retired numbers:

- Bryant - trade, but on draft day
- Chamberlain - trade
- Gasol - trade
- Baylor - draft
- Goodrich - trade (reacquired after losing in expansion)
- Magic - draft
- Kareem - trade
- Shaq - free agent
- Worthy - draft
- West - draft
- Wilkes - free agent
- Cooper - draft

Of the 12 Los Angeles Lakers in the HOF, less than half (5) were drafted.

If you add in the Minneapolis Lakers (Mikan, Pollard, Martin, Mikkelsen & Lovellette), you're still at less than half (8 of 17) being draftees.

Extremely rough game finishing around the rim for Williams in round 1, but I see the vision.

Nique Clifford is the guy I’m hoping falls to the second due to age concerns. I’m actually hoping he has a bad tournament run. He won’t last til 55 but if he’s there in the second I do what I can to move up.

Looks like we'll be giving either likely 25th or 26th pick to ATL. End of that AD trade chapter..

Looking at where the Lakers and Pelicans are now, I guess New Orleans won the trade?

And many of the folks who kvetched and moaned about trading Lonzo/BI/Josh, etc., are still dying on that hill.

So we gave:
Lonzo Ball
Josh Hart
Brandon Ingram
De'Andre Hunter
Dyson Daniels
25th or 26th 2025 pick.

For Anthony Davis.

Or we could also say that we gave:
Lonzo Ball
Josh Hart
Brandon Ingram
De'Andre Hunter
Dyson Daniels
25th or 26th pick.
Max Christie
Jalen Hood-Schifino
Clippers 2025 second round pick
Lakers 2029 first round pick

for 1 championship and Luka Doncic

Ironically, it's 55 again, right? That kid better brace himself. The media, for some reason, I can't put my finger on it.. have gone batsheet crazy about 55th picks.

Centers that can chase around the perimeter is a good idea to look for, for the kind of defense JJ likes playing which is why Hayes is important to it.

Agreed. Hopefully we find one in the draft
