Ive noticed the ads for the 80 HD channels on direct tv. Are these included or are they broken up in packages? I have time warner but I only get a handful of HD channels. If im not mistaken I pay $5 for that "tier" and another 5 for HD local channels.

You'll only get the HD channels in your package, so if you subscribe to HBO then you will get it in HD.

If you sign up for auto billing you can get them to waive the $10 per month HD Access fee for two years.

I agree with the sentiment that the Directv DVR is garbage. I've been beta testing the new releases for a few years and it's obvious that their development team is one of the least talented I've ever seen. I document the bugs and they are unable to fix them.

Then they stick multiple ADS within the guide which slows it down to a crawl. The HR20 was reasonably quick when it came out but the HR21-HR23 have always been sick dogs. They have only gotten slower as time passed.

The HR24 is faster but the programming goons will find a way to slow that one down as well. I'm an EE who has worked extensively with embedded firmware. The hardware in these receivers is amazing but the firmware is a joke. Dish Network has almost identical hardware (broadcom chips) and their DVR's are excellent. It comes down to the firmware people and the Directv people suck.

If you pause the game a massive status bar banner pops up and blocks the lower section of the screen. You can get rid of it but it won't go away on it's own. A small, slim status bar is all that's needed but Directv apparently needs to advertise DIRECTV in big letters to people already subscribing to their service. Then their press-and-hold function (like slo-mo) are some of the worst GUI decisions I've ever seen. Just a joke. Completely unusable. That's just the tip pf the iceburg. Their DVR blows.

Too bad. I'm pretty happy with everything else with Directv. They do need to get AMC in HD. They've got almost every other channel but can't get an awesome channel like AMC? Dumb.

I would never get DirectTV simply because their commercials are so annoying and lame.

Deciding what provider to get as well.

Want Verizon Fios, but don't know if it will be carrying the TWC Laker channel yet.

LOL, here is something to consider when looking at DirecTV vs FIOS

DirecTV monthly cost for THREE HD DVR's = $12
(I have this now, this is what I pay)

FIOS monthly cost for THREE HD DVR's = $60

Cost Difference per year (12 months) = $576
