| E Street Band has always been one helluva covers act. Pretty much any song written up to 1967 (not just rock, but R&B), they could probably do. Once they got the chord progressions worked out, they've pretty much got the song. |

Yes and no. I agree that Proud Mary is something they can pull off. And they HAVE covered it before. One of the neat thing about them live is that they're tracked so well, you can find out every time they've played any song -- here's Proud Mary:

1. I've seen Prince about 12 times. The best was an after show at the MGM about 5 years ago. Went to the concert and bribed someone to get into the after show. Stood about 5 feet from him the entire show, they just jammed until 4 in the morning. He could have been a jazz musician.
2. Wynton Marsalis last year at UNLV. He's no musical genius, but he's turned himself into a truly great jazz musician through extreme hard work and a love for the music.
3. Roy Hargrove at Catalinas about 8 years ago. He blew the roof off of that joint. Truth be told, he's a better trumpet player than Wynton but Wynton is a better promoter of himself.
4. Bruce Springsteen at the LA Coliseum 1984. Born in the USA tour. That same year I saw Prince a couple of times and Stevie Wonder at the Forum. It was a very good year.
5. Peabo Bryson, Roberta Flack and Al Jarreau at the Hollywood Bowl many years ago. A perfect combination of music and ambience.
6. Met Natalie Cole's business manager at a restaurant in Bellagio a few years back. We sat next to him at this Bennihana type restaurant and struck up a conversation with him. She was giving her Christmas concert at Paris and he took us back stage and we watched the entire show from the side-stage, maybe 20 feet from her. After the concert we met up with her in her dressing room and spent about 30 minutes talking to her. She was simply a sweet, interesting person. Too bad about the hardships she's undergoing right now.

I almost mostly go to those $10 shows at the Troub, Roxy, etc. to see unknown rock/punk bands. I find that I can't really stomach huge venues or festival type shows anymore. Though I did go to Warped Tour last year and met Bert from The Used! Damn that dude smells.
I've seen both bands a handful of times and can never get enough of Brand New and The Used.
And I'm very close to planning a trip to the UK around Muse's upcoming tour over there.
Oh, I also have two tickets to Taking Back Sunday with Envy on the Coast and Anberlin at the Grove in Anaheim tomorrow if anyone's interested lol. I just don't feel like making the drive from the valley after work. |

I was into Prince from the very beginning. Saw him the first gig he ever played in LA at The Roxy back in 1979. Here is a review from that gig published in the LA Times. I was about 10 feet from him the entire concert. I'm pretty sure he is the best MUSICIAN who has been a pop icon.

I have a bunch of his stuff dating back to 80s; studio, live, bootleg, etc... on all medium from 45s to CDs.
I saw him live a few years back in Philly... great show, simply fantastic.... he's one of my Top 5 Favorite Artist...

Wow, and I thought I was the only dude who knew about Joe Bonamassa. My dad's seen him live and said he was beyond awesome......the only time I've personally seen him live is on one of the dvd's I have of him.
Me and the old man have seen Robben Ford, Eric Johnson, Johny Winter, and G3 (Satriani, Johnson, and Vai) so far and he swears Bonamassa was just as good if not better than all of them (as far as live performance goes).

I saw Metallica at Marlay park last year, James' voice isn't what it used to be, but 30,000 people singing Mater of Puppets, just great
A few months before that I saw Velvet Revolver, I think at the ambassador theater, it was AWFUL, Scott Weiland ruined all the potential that band had IMO
I also have tickets for B.B. King on the 20th of next month, I've never seen him live, but I know I won't be disappointed

surprise surprise............best concert I've seen in recent years is Brian Setzer's Christmas show at the Gibson. Saw it in 09 and 11.The Ventures and Royal Crown Revue opened up for them back in 09.

I know this may sound super corny, but one of the best concerts I went to was Boyz II Men with Brian McKnight and Joe in London. I took a girl there on a surprise for a date as she had previously said she liked Boyz II Men, turned out pretty good
I also saw DMX live in London, and I was in the front row, literally about 5 feet or so away from him for most of the performance.
