50 Cent does not deserve to be mentioned on a "Greatest Rapper" list. |

Other. I can't really decide. Of those on the list, personally I like (and own more) Jay-z albums. Biggie was boring to me and sounded like he had crap in his mouth when he spoke. Tupac = Overrated. Snoop = on a lower level lyrically and too inconsistent. 50 Cent = LOL
Honestly, I'd prefer to listen to Andre 3000, Devin the Dude and Bun B/Pimp C any day over the listed rappers. _________________ "Dread it, run from it... destiny arrives all the same." |

... minus Tupac of course.
I honestly thought you said, "Rate them, who's the king of crap?" And that's why I gave the response that I did, at first. Because with the exception of Tupac, I think the rest are crap _________________ (\__/)

I'm gonna have to preface this by noting that I listened to rap from about 1987-1997 and the only rapper today who I can say I would call great is Eminem. That being said
1. Tupac-The GOAT despite his lack of rhythmic variety, somewhat repetitive themes and schizophrenic nature of his lyrics. He's here because he was the genius who was best able to humanize a group that others have done nothing to marginalize, to show their humanity in the face of circumstances that people outside the situation cannot really contemplate. Combine that with an extraordinary voice and delivery, at once bold, majestic and vulnerable and Tupac reigns.
2. Bigggie-Despite turning the thug life into a cartoon at times, Biggie was the rapper most able to combine the rhythms and stylistic persona of the street with lyrical genius and an an ability to create and resolve musical tension by mdulating his voice, playing with the beat and variety of length of phrases.
3. Chuck D-Perhaps the most coherent rapper ever when he had a mind to be. The best of the purely political rappers and the one with his pulse on those from the hood who had gone to college. In the 80's, if you were into rap and in college, Chuck was absolutely king.
4. Big Daddy Kane-The most technically gifted rapper who ever lived. Dude was like a Jazz musician in his ability to deliver with flow and lyrical brilliance. There is absolutely no doubt that pre-2000, Kane was the rapper who simply flowed hardest, best and with the most style.
5. Pfife-The most under-rated rapper of all time IMO. People listen to Tribe called Quest and think Q-Tip. But Tip was hampered by lack of rhythmic variety and stilted delivery. He just covered it up with a voice that was smooth like butter. Listen to Quest a few times, I mean, really listen and you'll see that Pfife was simply a genius, lyrically, poetically, stylistically and delivery-wise. 1988, senior year, Garvey High, where all the guys were corny, but the girls were mack fly.....Pfife was simply a stud. |

I can't believe some of you don't consider 50 and snoop to be great rappers, and wait a minute did someone just said Tupac is overrated? _________________ "These young guys are playing checkers. I'm out there playing chess." Kobe Bryant |

50 cent is laughable. Dude has no talent whatsoever. There's so many people you could've replaced him with: Game, Nas, Eminem, and Weezy.
I voted for "other" because Wayne would be my personal vote. Love some of those other guys to death, but Wayne is my man. _________________ We are earth people on a spiritual journey to the stars. Tupac had a gift that few people ever have. He had that "it" that most poets had. Just a special connection in his brain to connect thoughts/emotions with words. Anyone can write complicated rhymes but not anyone can be a true poet. Probably one of the only true "poets" ever in the rap game. A truly amazing talent. I don't think anyone comes close to 2Pac. It's not even close. |

Well-stated. I agree for common and similar reasons. _________________ http://chickhearn.ytmnd.com/
