It's always a changing list, but so far I've liked their performances the best. I liked Freddy Soto's stand-up live as well, RIP.

It's too bad Last Comic Standing has changed where the funniest comics in the auditions don't necessarily make it on the show. This season's set of comics have not been very good. Case in point -- the winner is Iliza?! She's horrible!

Eddie Murphy
George Carlin
Chris Rock
Sam Kinneson

Bill Hicks is hands down the funniest comedian I've heard. I know he won't go down in the history books with Carlin, but I relate more to his humor than Carlin's for the most part. It's been written that Denis Leary stole from Bill Hicks, post-mortem. I never liked his style anyway.

Also, I'm suprised about the amount of lists that have Dave Chappel on them. He's not really a funny Stand-Up Comedian, but rather scetch-comedian. His stand-up is descent, but not great.

Bill Hicks has always been my favorite, and it sucks he doesn't much credit. Denis Leary has stolen from him, a lot. Topics like the Barry Manelo keg party, city bike riders, Jim Fixx, Judas Priests, wax darts, Your children are not special, and many more. It's also been rumored that Denis Leary's entire act was created upon the death of Hicks. (Hicks died in 1994, but he was in terrible health bc of drugs and alcohol. He hadn't been performing heavily lately, which paved the way for others.) In October 92, Leary recorded No Cure For Cancer, which basically launched his career. Come to find out, his act, from his jokes to his demeanor, had turned into an energetic Bill Hicks... Because of Bill Hicks' lack of fame at the time, no one but the diehards seemed to notice. Soon after, Hicks dies, and Leary is getting the attention Hicks should have got. Tragedy.

Either way, Leary does have a lot of original material, and its really good. You just have to skip the tracks you know he takes from Hicks. He's a scumbag, but that might be why he's so funny. Besides, he's the one that has to live with that on his conscience.

That's a good list

I'd add Dave Chappelle and Seinfeld to that.

George Carlin - Brilliant and hilarious. The best, and he did it for such a long time.

Bill Hicks - Not nearly as much material out there as Carlin, but he was also thought provoking and very funny. Although he was a smart guy, he never lost sight of Dick Joke Island.

Louis CK - This guy makes me laugh to the point where I'm crying. He's the envy of all stand up comics because he writes a new hour of material every year and never reuses any of it. Crazy work ethic.

Dave Chappelle - His stand up is really great story telling.

Marc Maron - Smart and funny. Check out his podcast where he interviews other comedians.

Eddie Murphy still my personal favorite. I hold Raw to the highest standard of standup and can't get enough of anything he does. Hell, Beverly Hills Cop is still probably my favorite movie.

I love mitch hedberg. I liked his style a lot, his randomness and off the cuff style was great. I like a lot of other comedians, but I recommend mitch hedberg for any of those who are unfamiliar. He had a comedy central special where no one knew who he was and they didn't get him at first but then started really liking him so he didn't want to stop. The special that aired was edited for the 30 minutes or whatever, but the unedited version is great as its about an hour or so long.

Tim Minchin is ridiculously funny, in addition to being a virtuoso musician. Here''s a sample:

I can't for the life of me find anything funny about him, much less put him on a greatest of list.

Pryor.

Everyone else is playing for second.

his comedy was revolutionary, and damn funny. Even the best comics (guys like Carlin and E. Murphy) gave Pryor props as the best of all time.
