Yes, the little potato that could. They usually play second fiddle to bugers, steak, or some other entree, but french fries can fend for themselves on their own. I'm specifically looking for opinions on places that do good fries in the L.A. area, but no reason to limit it to just that.

What do you prefer? Fresh cut like Islands or In N Out? Shoestring? Steak fries?

I love the fries at El Pollo Loco. I always get a meal and eat the fries and save the burrito for later. They are grub.

You know, I like their fries too, but they are soggy as hell. I'm ok with soggy fries, but I know a lot of people aren't.

I prefer soggy fries over crispy and hard (not to be confused with the elusive crispy on the outside, but soft on the inside, freshly cooked fries).

I think my favorite kind are steak fries though, like at fuddruckers.

MCD's still has the premium fry. Their massive use guarantees them the best potatoes on the market. Not as good as they used to be (especially when they used beef tallow, Yum!), but still the gold standard...

Interesting thread since I just had the best french fries I ever had last week.

Wurstkuche. Downtown LA. Dip them in their curry ketchup or chipotle aioli.

Were they those super fine little shoestrings. We have a little bistro that serves those here. Yummy!

Nah they're more the fresh cut variety. Not the size of steak fries but sort of in between.

This place is great. They're like the Fathers Office of sausages. Had me a spicy duck sausage with carmelized onions and sweet peppers. Delirium Nocturnum on tap with the aforemtioned fries.

In 'N outs are the best. Curly Fries from Jack in the Box are good, too.

Regular fries from Jack in the Box suck, though.

Savannah makes the best sweet potato fries I've ever tasted. It's downstairs in the building where they do the KLAC shows in Burbank.

Nice choice. Best "In-& Out substitute" I've seen from a chain restaurant. Great burger and fries.

Island's has the best fries I've ever had though. Whatever that garlic-salt concoction they put on it is great. Mix it with some Ranch dressing and I'm set.

Boardwalk Fries have been going under for years. They used to be in other malls, but shut down in the late 90's-early 00's.

Too greasy. Too salty. Taste of the potato is entirely lost. You're essentially just tasting fried oil.
