There really isn't much new news this morning so I'm going to combine yesterday with today.
Report: Jimmy Butler wants to sign with Lakers. Sounds like someone’s agent wants leverage.

There are two simple facts to consider with this story:
1) Jimmy Butler is a restricted free agent, and the Bulls can match any offer he signs with another team and retain him.
2) The Chicago Bulls are very, very high on Butler and want to keep him.
With that background, we pass the report that what Butler wants to do is play for the Lakers. Via Mark Medina of the Los Angeles Daily News:
Lastly, Chicago forward Jimmy Butler hopes to take his talents elsewhere and take advantage of the new television deal after his career year coincided with Tom Thibodeau’s firing and Derrick Rose’s chemistry issues. Although Butler wants to sign a one-year deal with the Lakers, according to a league source familiar with his thinking, the Bulls are expected to match any offer for the restricted free agent.

Lakers Free Agency: Jimmy Butler wants to sign 1-year contract with the Lakers, Bulls expected to match
By Drew Garrison @DrewGarrisonSBN on Jun 28, 2015, 10:25p 52
Reinhold Matay-USA TODAY Sports
The Bulls' prized wing wants to sign with the Lakers, but Chicago has control of his future.
The Los Angeles Lakers are preparing for a very important free agency period, and Chicago Bulls star wing Jimmy Butler is interested in making a jump to the purple and gold. Butler wants to sign a one-year deal with the Lakers, but the Bulls will match any offer, reports Mark Medina of the Los Angeles Daily News.

How will NBA’s new television deal affect Lakers’ free agency?

The phone calls between NBA executives and agents will soon become endless both late at night and early in the morning.
Shortly after free agency begins on Tuesday at 9:01 p.m. PST, NBA teams will host elaborate sales pitches to marquee free agents. They could dine them at a five-star restaurant. They could present a well-produced video tribute praising their greatness. The owners, executives, coaches and players alike could argue on how that prized free agent will elevate the franchise into a championship contender.

Greg Monroe Plans To Meet With Knicks, Celtics, Bucks, Lakers, Blazers – RealGM
Contributed by Jake Carter on June 29, 2015 at 6:41 am
“I’m looking to be with a team that’s ready to win”, Monroe said to The Advocate. “Hopefully it will be a team where I’m the missing piece”. Monroe sounded ready to leave the Detroit Pistons, telling Williams he respects that “the team has different plans” while adding, “I don’t want to be anywhere I’m not wanted”. He made $4 million last season. The Knicks finished 17-65, but will try to convince Monroe he could be the “missing piece’’ as team president Phil Jackson, without a center on the roster, is starved for big men”. A native of New Orleans, Monroe also said that he would love to play with Anthony Davis and the New Orleans Pelicans, though it’s not clear whether the team wants to pursue that.

Report: DeAndre Jordan to meet with Clippers, Knicks, Lakers and Mavs
By Matt Moore | NBA writer
June 28, 2015 11:56 pm ET
DeAndre Jordan is set to be a big marquee free agent on July 1st and there's an increasing feeling that he may be on his way out of LA and the Clippers with rumors persisting of a schism between he and Chris Paul.
Meanwhile, USA Today reports that the Mavericks, Lakers, and Knicks will join the Clippers in holding meetings with Jordan, while the Bucks unfortunately for the were unable to pique the big man's interest.

Pretty persuasive that Butler will sign a big money lng term contract with Bulls, unfortunately. Would love to think that he wants to come pair up with a great rookie, couple rookies, plus another great vet big, and Kobe somehow magically.
Even if he did though, would it prevent getting Durant or Westbrook 2016 like yinoma said is the real big prize in this whole transition half decade. |

Well in the other thread it was discussed that he could take out a 750k insurance policy and then take the QO next year. That way he can be a UFA in 2016 and come to the Lakers _________________ Kobe |

Why Robert Upshaw Can Be Steal of the 2015 NBA Draft for Los Angeles Lakers
By David Murphy , Featured Columnist Jun 29, 2015
Robert Upshaw is a 7-foot, shot-blocking savant.
Dare to encroach upon his paint, and he will crush you. Try seeking refuge in jump shots, and he will rush out with his 7'5" wingspan and consume the ball on its upward trajectory like a giant pterodactyl.
But despite all of that, the former Washington Huskies center went undrafted Thursday night at Barclays Center.

Kobe Bryant forgives Larry Nance Jr. for tweet referencing sexual assault charge
Posted on June 29, 2015 by Mark Medina
It turns out Kobe Bryant did not scold Lakers rookie forward Larry Nance Jr. for posting a tweet three years ago about his sexual assault case.
Instead, Bryant said he forgave Nance Jr. and said there is “no need” to discuss it any further.
“The kid figured it out himself,” Bryant said on Saturday with ESPN’s Jemele Hill at the BET Experience at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles. “The kid is 19. He’s a kid.”

Lakers Rumors: Jimmy Butler, LaMarcus Aldridge On L.A.’s Free Agency Radar?
By Greg Price @GP_IBTimes on June 29 2015 12:24 PM EDT
Portland power forward and soon-to-be free agent LaMarcus Aldridge is interested in the Lakers, Mavs, and Spurs. Getty Images
Less then two days from the start of free agency, the Los Angeles Lakers appear to be in contention for two of the most coveted players available on the open market: Chicago Bulls shooting guard Jimmy Butler and Portland Trail Blazers power forward LaMarcus Aldridge.
On Thursday, ESPN's Chris Broussard said that "Aldridge is the No. 1 guy on [the Lakers'] wish list," and the talks are not expected to go away after the Lakers failed to reach a trade with the Sacramento Kings over big man DeMarcus Cousins. Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak may have as much as $23 million in cap space this summer, which is more than enough to sign either Butler or Aldridge to a presumed one-year deal.

1-on-1 with Jeanie Buss: Lakers president opens up on relationship with Phil Jackson
Sam Amick, USA TODAY Sports 9:43 p.m. EDT June 28, 2015
MANHATTAN BEACH, Calif. – With NBA free agency set to start at 12:01 a.m. Eastern Wednesday and the Los Angeles Lakers looking to turn the tide of their recent misfortune, their president and governor, Jeanie Buss, agreed to chat with USA TODAY Sports.
The following is the portion of the interview that was not used in this piece.
Q: So on the heels of a draft that you're obviously excited about and with it seeming like it's Kobe's last year, where's your head at? How are you feeling?
A: "I think what's exciting is we've turned a corner in terms of being able to envision what Laker basketball will be like going forward, the next generation. Certainly the draft (the Lakers took guard D'Angelo Russell out of Ohio State with the No. 2 pick and forward Larry Nance Jr. out of Wyoming with the 27th pick) was an interesting step in terms of the decision that was made in who we drafted, and you can see the direction the organization is going.

If Not The Cavaliers, Could LeBron James Wind Up With the Los Angeles Lakers?
LeBron James has reportedly opted out of his $21.6 million player option with the Cleveland Cavaliers and in doing so will become a free agent on July 1st. In many ways, this was not unexpected of the league’s premiere player, who will have tested the unrestricted free agent waters a third time in doing so.

D'Angelo Russell Trade Rumors: Latest Buzz, Speculation Surrounding Lakers PG
By Mike Chiari , Featured Columnist
Point guard D'Angelo Russell already has Los Angeles Lakers fans buzzing after being selected with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2015 NBA draft, but that could be short-lived due to L.A.'s reported interest in Sacramento Kings center DeMarcus Cousins.
Report: Lakers Would Consider Dealing Russell for Cousins
Monday, June 29
When the Lakers bypassed Duke center Jahlil Okafor to select Russell with the second pick of the draft, most assumed that it was due to a perceived confidence in being able to sign a big in free agency.
As it turns out, though, Russell could very well be part of a deal that would bring one of the most promising centers in the game to Los Angeles.

Lakers' week in review: Team pegs its future on D'Angelo Russell
JASON SZENES / EUROPEAN PRESSPHOTO AGENCY
D'Angelo Russell points to the crowd after being selected by the Lakers in the NBA draft in New York on June 25.
BY ERIC PINCUS
June 29, 2015, 6:06 a.m.
The Lakers had a big week, selecting Ohio State guard D'Angelo Russell with the No. 2 pick in Thursday's NBA draft.
Leading up to the draft, there was much speculation on who the Lakers would take, with the team seemingly leaning toward Duke center Jahlil Okafor. The dilemma was choosing between going with size over a skilled perimeter player.
The team even considered trading away the pick to the Sacramento Kings for forward/center DeMarcus Cousins, but a deal never materialized.

Fancy Stats
Not even LeBron James can save the Lakers next season
By Neil Greenberg June 29 at 2:21 PM

The Los Angeles Lakers finished the season 21-61 with the fourth worst margin of victory after adjusting for strength of schedule (minus-6.2). As you would expect, optimism isn’t running high for the squad heading into the 2015-16 season, as evidenced by the bookmakers at Bovada giving them 66-to-1 odds to win the championship.

Introductory Press Conference: Larry Nance
by Joey Ramirez
Lakers.com Contributor
Posted: Jun 29, 2015
The 27th pick of the NBA Draft, Larry Nance, got his first taste of Los Angeles during his press conference on Monday. After General Manager Mitch Kupchak introduced him at the Lakers practice facility, Nance took questions from the assembled media:
Q: Opening statement:
Nance: We went through a six-week process of flying throughout the U.S. and working out for other teams, but I can truly say there’s not one place that I’d rather be than here today. I just want to thank you all for coming out, and go Lakers.
Q: On being with the Lakers, and how his dad, Larry Sr., reacted as a former pro:
Nance: I’m ecstatic to be here, obviously. I think on Draft Night, my dad kind of looked at me and said, “Well, you’re now the enemy.” He was a Phoenix Sun for seven years, so I didn’t get to see them, but I’m sure he had some pretty good battles against the Lakers. It’s been a whirlwind, and I’m just so happy to be here. I can’t even put it into words.

Lakers decline player option on PF Jordan Hill
0 | Comments
by Elliott Smith | Staff Writer
Mon, 29 Jun 2015 3:42 PM ET
As expected, the Lakers will not pick up the player option on power forward Jordan Hill, making him a free agent, per the Sporting News.
Hill was scheduled to make $9 million this season, which would have been a major deterrant as the Lakers try to clear cap space to sign a marquee free agent.
Hill, 28, averaged 12 points and 7.9 rebounds in 57 games this season.

LaMarcus Aldridge 'leaning' towards joining Lakers, per report
By Jesus Gomez @JejeGomez_PtR on Jun 29, 2015, 9:20p 7
Justin Ford-USA TODAY Sports
Despite a bad couple of seasons, the Lakers remain a free agency destination.
LaMarcus Aldridge is leaning towards joining the Lakers next season, reports the Los Angeles Times' Ben Bolch. The Lakers have reportedly set a meeting with the prized big man for the moment free agency begins Tuesday night on the West Coast.
Aldridge is one of the most sought-after free agents this year and has reportedly told Trail Blazer officials he's not returning to Portland. Several teams, including the Spurs, Mavericks, Raptors and Knicks, will pursue him but it now appears the Lakers could be the front runners to land him.

Lakers hope legacy continues with D'Angelo Russell
J.A. Adande, ESPN Senior Writer
EL SEGUNDO, Calif. -- Monday afternoon, four days after D'Angelo Russell was drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers, minutes after he held up his gold No. 1 jersey in front of the Lakers-logoed backdrop to provide all the tangible evidence he needed, Russell still said he was "shocked" that the whole thing happened at all.
We were shocked too, shocked that the Lakers would stray from history and pass up a big man like Jahlil Okafor to take a point guard. Except it shouldn't be shocking. Not at all. The Lakers' history of winning with big men, from Mikan to Wilt to Kareem to Shaq to Pau, is the very reason they needed to grab a great point guard.
