That has been the achillees heel of the Lakers for the last few years -- SETTLING for stupid jumpers (Kobe is the main offender here) instead of starting the offense on the inside ... the draconian collapse in the 4th was due COMPLETELY by settling for jumpers instead of what got them there for 3+ quarters -- by pounding the ball inside.
BTW -- Kobe is a SHELL of his former self -- he like Pau is NOT penetrating or crashing inside for easy buckets. |

You can't use rationale and logic around here. It's better to make excuses like... Kobe settles for jumpers cause the refs won't call fouls. You know, things like that to keep this eternal hope that he still does have MJ type game in him, he just doesn't do it by choice. This way, we can keep on thinking that he's the best in the league. Sure his Robin has been sucking, but usually Batman continues to be Batman, but in this case, he's playing like Robin while Robin is playing like Alfred.
But there is a 3rd guy who has also declined, his name is Phil Jackson. He took the Mavs lightly, sitting idly while a 16 pt lead in game 1 evaporated, then he sits Kobe out for a good chunk of the 4th thinking the same regular season rotation will still be good enough to beat the Mavs. Then he calls for Pau instead of Odom to guard Dirk in the most important possession of the season, it was only apropos that Pau stumbled on his face and fouled him. He argued and argued with the refs and the next day we find out it was to get Blake in, so confirming Odom was nowhere in his radar. Phil gave away game 1 and the proof is how he's been putting Kobe in earlier in the 4th in the past 2 games. Which means that he knows he made subbing mistakes in game 1. Why is there no sense of urgency from game 1? These Mavs are front runners, you take game 1 and they play differently in game 2. You let them win game 1 and this is the snowball effect. I have never been more pissed at Phil in his entire tenure as Lakers coach. Game 1 was completely mismanaged at the biggest stage of the NBA, a stage where he's supposed to be earning his money. |

Simmons' twitter comment was one of the most fitting and appropriate sports analogies ever.

The Kobe era just made the turn at Dealey Plaza and passed the book depository...

Four game sweep by Mavs would undoubtedly be an unforeseen, blindside headshot to our three peat hopes. And it is happening in Dallas. As depressed as I am, this line was way too perfect.
Down 3-0, the motorcade is in the plaza. All the Mavs have to do is pull the trigger. |

Why no body ever blame our 10 million dollar coach, who felt like he sold us out on the 1st game?
Who sits on his high chair manage to sleeping with his eyes open and fool everybody.
Who never embrace a player during the game for playing well, in fact he looks the other way when a player pass by to take a rest.
Who never gets up or call a time out when needed, except last night game 3 in Dallas who did some decent coaching embarrassed that he is 1 game away from elimination.
Who keeps the same rotation like a clock, no matter who are we play against or what is the score.
Am I the only person who thinks its his fault?
I say we need to unload our boring coaching staff and their stupid triangle, but as long as Jeanie Bus shakes her pretty tail, he is not going anywhere.
Everybody thinks he's the best coach in the NBA history.
If it wasn't for Jordan and Pipen with the Bulls, Kobe and Shaq and later Kobe and Gasol with the Lakers, he would not have a single championship ring. |

4Q - 4:00 87-81
Up six with just under four minutes to go, and the Lakers get out scored 17-5.
Why? because they doubled team Dirk EVERY SINGLE time down, giving Terry and Peja wide open threes all day.
You have a nice lead, milk it! WHY DO YOU DOUBLE Dirk? Who cares!? If he beats you with his stupid fadeaways, then he beats you! why double team and mess up your defense and give up open threes!?
Stupid defense by LA down the stretch, Odom and Fish scoring should have been enough to hold off a couple of Dirk wrong footed fadeaways... Phil out coached again. |

Spot on with your reasoning. While I understand Phil took a x% paycut this year, I could not fathom him coaching just enough to match the discounted amount, but that's how it appears at this moment. |

I know he took a paycut I just round the number, he is still overpaid for his boring stupid triangle. |

The game slid out of their hands on the 4th quarter when he was playing the bench all along. He puts Kobe and Gasol on the 6th minute. I don't know why he kept the rest of the starters on the bench till 4 minutes before the end of the end of the game. It has to be his arrogant attitude. |

They say you live by the three, you die by the three. That saying has always been right, because every team is bound to miss shots. Until now. Dallas just won't miss. |

It's hilarious how many mistakes Fisher can make without ever being criticized by an announcer. |

Who the hell said it was easy? Even Kobe's close buckets were a result of the Mavs doing a great job of forming a wall around the basket. |
