Great recap DB!

This game had "loss" written all over it until the last part of the third quarter. Very nice to see the bench bringing us back rather than losing a lead. Great job by Phil to let Blake and Brown close it out for us.

How true - 1) it's ring night, which can sometimes throw players off their game, 2) the Lakers miss Bynum while going up against Yao Ming at the healthiest he's going to be all season, 3) Kobe's clearly not at his best yet after surgery and being forced into an inactive summer, and 4) this is the Houston Rockets, who always seem to find a way to frustrate the Lakers the first time they meet every season.

Talk about all the makings of a trap game!

DB - Thanks again for the T&R's!

There was an unusual amount of yelling in our house too! First, an hour of "NOOO" "What was THAT??" and expressions about Fish I shouldn't repeat, followed by an hour of whoops, cheers, "YES" and "THREE!!"

Thank you BLAKE. BARNES, BROWN and ODOM!!!

And thank you very kindly Mitch!!!

nicely said DB!! No horsemen like metaphors or similes this year?

I think we're going to play it a little more straight forward to start this season, work in a lot of Phil stuff since this is probably his last season. See if we can bring in some new readers, then maybe later get a little creative again.

And here I was hoping for a space theme. Or maybe clowns.

DB, as always, thank you. I gift to you my 10,000th post.

Last night was amazing. The Lakers always manage a way to outdo themselves. And we're all reminded of what a FAMILY this team really is from top to bottom.

I'm just glad we won the game.

Kobe did very well. The knee is gonna take however long it does, but once again it illustrates how incredible this guy is. Most players could hardly dream of such production perfectly healthy much less on a surgically repaired knee still rehabbing.

Pau will have to do a lot of heavy lifting early...and he definitely looks up for the task. Thank god for that man. He comes here out of the dungeon of Elvis Hell in Memphis, and he makes it look easy.

But as our Superfriends found out last night in Boston, blending talents...ain't as easy as it looks, is it??

Much love for the outstanding game wrap. Thank you so much. Your game summary leaves no doubt that it was a remarkable and memorable game.
I'm traveling out of the country so didn't see the game and don't have the bandwidth to watch the highlights. I can't think of the last time that Game 1 of the regular season would have been so amazing. Maybe never.

Even the ring ceremony, with its introductions by each of the players, must have been amazing to see. Two great memories from Game 1 - the ring ceremony and Barnes draining the 3 with the dish from Kobe. Outstanding!

Tim Harris deserves huge credit for coming up with the idea for the ring ceremony and then selling it to the nba brass. Harris more than made up for the 2007 season's short shorts debacle.

I look forward to reading DB's recap/analysis more than anyone working for the LA Times, the OC Register, ESPN, or NBA.com.

I don't know who this guy is, but he's a treasure and one of the main reasons why I love this site.

Barry -- Thanks yet AGAIN for all the hard work and enthusiasm you put into these recaps. BRAVO.

LGers -- do you even realize how incredibly blessed and lucky we are to get this kind of analysis, night in and night out? I doubt that ANY other team has this much analysis by guys not already on their team organization's payroll.

Best Laker site on the web, hands down.

Great write up DB. I watch every game and still read your reviews because I appreciate your clarity and expression on the ups and downs every game brings. Keep it up forever!!!

Congrats Hoopschick29 on 10k posts. Just about everyone of them has been quality.

I would like to add in that Sasha not only got the DNP-CD last night but didn't seem happy to see Shannon's success. I'm not starting drama, just seeing how the dynamic of the team is going to go. I am a believer that Blake will allow Sasha and Shannon to be more productive players, but Sasha needs to produce and expand his game as Shannon has. Hopefully last night will give him a great blueprint in what Phil is expecting from our 2 guards coming off the bench.

Welcome to the NBA, Steve Blake! Yeah, you've been in the league for 8 years, but this is really why you play the game - hitting the game winner for the champs, right?

Blake flipped the momentum of the game with his 3's, ShanWow caught fire, and Blake hit the proper bookend to a great night.

Predictably, the euphoria of the ring ceremony led to a too relaxed 1st half. Brooks/Martin 37 pts in 1st half, 13 in 2nd.

Blake really impressed me with his defensive intensity...and of course those 3's but i already knew he could do that...

Shan-WOW was amazing...he gonna have a great career for us...

Barnes didn't look that comfertable in the triangle just yet...but his hustle for D and rebounds were great...

Gonna be a GREAT year if we play like we did to close it out...

Have been a long time reader of yours thought and rating, i am thinking that maybe you could add the player/players of the game section for each game
Tks and cheers, really appreciate your great work!

I used to do the Player of the Game and the Play of the Game. But Kobe seemed to dominate. Someone else came up with the NKPOG (Non-Kobe Player of the Game) and did that as part of a post in the thread every game.

Great job by the bench!! I was looking forward to seeing them make an impact!!! Shannon hurt his hand last year and struggled with his shot and looked like he really put forth the effort in the offseason to complement his high flying act!!! Blake and Barnes looked terrific!! When Kobe gets completely conditioned (he still looked great too!) and Drew does the same....look out!!! Very deep team!!!

Taking my bow for creating the NKPOG.

I actually stopped doing that when other players started stepping up and soon, the rings followed.

Ditto - I have my 'crack' back!

Quote:
Mrs. Dr. Laker (on game nights): "When are you coming to bed?"
Dr. Laker: "Just a few more minutes, baby."

Then keep hitting reload, in hopes that T&R is up . . .

MAN does that sound familiar. Although my response is usually a little saltier. "Woman...you slept for 28 years without me next to you! Leave me be!"
