Only 6 more games before Bynum's return:

vs Indiana
@ Memphis
@ Houston
vs Sacramento
vs Washington
@ Clippers

They'll manage.

I think a lot of us had this game pinned as a loss since the schedule came out, so while blowing a 19 point lead is pathetic, the ultimate result doesn't exactly come as a surprise.

A few things to note:
-Seeing the lead basically fall apart after Gasol got subbed out in the 2nd is a pretty overt example of just how handicapped this team is without a legit backup C. You almost have to be impressed that this hasn't hurt the team any more (just 3 losses), but the bigger credit goes to the benefit of having such an easy schedule in the early going of the season.
-Without Bynum at least, this is a very inconsistent rebounding team. The Jazz are 24th in the league in rebounds and managed to outrebound LA tonight. Throw in the flat perimeter shooting outside of Kobe's late rally, and it isn't a shock the game turned out the way it did.
-Not to take away from Artest's big shot in Game 5 of the WCF last season, but I think we can all agree he's not the ideal player you want shooting in the clutch. Down the stretch I'd take a contested Kobe jumper over a wide open Artest 3 any day (not that I necessarily fault Kobe for trying to kick it out to the open man).
-Perhaps the most disappointing part of this game: the Lakers simply got played. The Jazz have made plenty of comebacks this season, it's something a team has to be aware of coming into this matchup, and something the Lakers had to be prepared for when they took that big lead. Instead, LA became yet another stat for the Jazz to add to their comeback tally.

Losses are always disappointing, but it's a good reminder this is a championship team mainly because of their size, and with Bynum out, a lot of that is simply missing right now. Kobe nearly saved the day but you can't always count on that to bail you out. But hey, at least it's just the regular season.

Gasol was destroyed by Darko... yes Darko!

Yep. His D has been awful all year. Can't wait until Bynum comes back--a true anchor.

Gasol teaming with Bynum causes all sorts of havoc on the defensive end, because you have over 14 feet in the paint you have to try to shoot over.

Matter of time before we take our lead over them, Spurs are untested. They lost by nearly double digits @ home to Mavs

Fisher shouldn't be on the court down the stretch.

Brown might be a little better guarding DW.

Apparently Pau and Odom couldn't get too many rebounds when facing tough teams.

And they beat this same Utah team on the road while we lost to Suns at home, a team much worse than Dallas.

We will see who wins when both teams are at full strength.

Even the Spurs can't beat the Suns if they drilled 22 3's in their face.

Boston is only 1 game behind us. We have to stay ahead of them all year...

They wouldn't be open enough to drill 22 shots on Spurs. Book it.

I agree. Boston is going to have it easy in the East this year. The East is weak and the West is stacked. It's going to be a challenge for us to stay ahead of them this year.

Lakers leave 3pt shooters open in almost every game, which is fine if they protected the rim properly, but they don't. Bynum makes a HUGE difference defensively for this team by not allowing so many easy layups and dunks.

I dont think so, right after christmas boston will go through their annual struggles. They will coast through the year. Game 7 will be at staples again.

The game was fairly close. But what stood out for me was the no show by the Killer B's. They typically put up 25 points a game, and they were held to 13 points tonight.

The X Factor the whole year will be the BENCH. When they play well, we're unbeatable. When they don't show up, we'll struggle and work too hard for a win.

The Killer Bs depend on Gasol being there. Gasol left the court with +17. When he came back it was +6.

I know you aren't big on facts and all, but he came back when it was +10 (39-29). Those 3 minutes by Caracter were horrible though, but that's what happens when you're as thin up front as the Lakers.

Kobe should have passed to gasol on that last play but i guess he saw ron open and going for the win. Oh well, fisher should not play down the stretch. I know blake was struggling offensively but we have been good when he finishes games
