Ricky was hitting walk off shots all night, i've never seen a room more visibly uncomfortable, even on tv. (Except for maybe the fine job Colbert did at the Republican shin dig a few years back)The Player Hater of the Year Award goes to the Hollywood Foreign Press. Fwiw I think Gervais is now the greatest comedian alive and will be for a while. Extras and the original Office were fantastic. Also, his "The Ricky Gervais Guide to..." podcasts are hysterical. They're hour+ long discussions between Ricky, Steve Merchant, and their nitwit friend/producer Karl Pilkington, on such subjects as Philosophy, the arts, medicine, the future--every minute is hilarious. I enjoyed the Globes more this year. I think I had better gags. More along the lines of the Mel Gibson one last year.
Obviously the rumour that the organizers stopped me going out on stage for an hour is rubbish. I did every link I was scheduled to do. The reason why the gaps were uneven is because when I got the rundown I was allowed to choose who I presented to. I obviously chose the spots that I had the best gags for. They couldn't move around the order but I could move around however I wanted.
All the same conspiracy theories as last year too... "So and so was offended"... "hasn't been invited back yet"... exactly the same as last time. "Paul McCartney was furious"... no he wasn't. And nor was Tim Allen and Tom Hanks. I was drinking with them after.
Why do people have to embellish? They're allowed to say they hated it. They're allowed to say they didn't find it funny, that it was tasteless, over the top, or whatever. But why do they speculate and make stuff up?
Don't worry, I know the answer. Because it's more interesting than "it went fine and some people won some awards and then went to a party". But that's all that happened.
Actually, I see what they mean. Boring. So here's what really happened. Bruce Willis and Sly Stallone started a fight with me but Alec Baldwin and Mark Walberg stepped in and helped me out. That's what happened.

OK I feel the need to stick up for myself at this point, as it has become quite obvious that my view is the minority.
The fact is we are looking at things from two very distinct perspectives: Inside and outside.
To most of you, you see celebs as these one dimensional type people. Out takes and sound bites from the news.
I happen count several as friends who were disparaged that night. They are real people. Not just these sound bites you see on TMZ. My good friend had his heart in the right place when he got up there and quipped about the 'mean spirited' undertones the evening had started to take on. I concur.
No one wants to see their friends humiliated on a night that is supposed to honor our colleagues for a year of hard work.
Ricky set the tone by opening the show recounting Sheen's dalliances in a hotel room? Classless.
I respect your guys' opinions here, but to me it was a shameful display.

Again, my opinion is one of someone who works in the industry and who counts a lot of these people as friends and colleagues.

You mean your friend the drug addict who joked about having sex with 5 of the actresses in the room at once? But that wasn't tasteless because he's your friend.

I enjoyed seeing your friends ridiculed quite a bit, actually. If they were humiliated then so be it. I mean if I took a bunch of drugs and became so disoriented that I stumbled my way into a complete stranger's home and then eventually her bed, I'd have a sense of humor about it later. But then again I'm not your friend.
