Ocasio Cortez is becoming my favorite legislator. She lacks experience and polish. But she's improving quickly. I think paying her staff a living wage unlike most Congressmen is a factor.
She's genuine. One of Obama's greatest political attributes.

Love what she has done and will do.

You know why? . . . Because that is exactly what it is.

Really? You can’t disagree with some of the policies she has supported and her reluctance to support other policies (like Medicare For All)? You can’t be against corporatism in the Democratic Party, of which she plays a significant role and crave something different? It has to be misogyny?

Plenty of men have similar positions and don't get the amount of flack that she does. I wonder what the difference is . . .

I have substantive differences with Surf, but I will vouch for him on the fact that he views all the mainstream democrats pretty equally. He’s an exception though.

Where did I imply otherwise?

I didn’t read in one way or the other whether you were implying Surf was one of those people (it was ambiguous). I was just making sure the point was made.

Much obliged.

Back to the topic at hand...Da Mule...you wonder what the difference is? It could be that she’s a woman. It could also be that she’s speaker of the house and gets the extra attention because of the power one in that role can wield.

There is no question that misogyny exists and that has been used against Pelosi, especially from the right. But to make a blanket statement that the efforts against Pelosi were really just misogyny is ignoring the policies many Progressives in the party are passionate about, and which Pelosi hedges or downright disagrees with. Hell, Ocasio-Cortez-Cortez joined protesters in her office just a couple weeks ago to demand faster action on climate change.

I say this about Pelosi though, she skillfully managed to get the new young progressives on her side and the reality is everyone else who was even considering running against Pelosi was to the right of her, so the progressives went with the best possible option at this time. It will be interesting to see how her Speakership plays outover the coming years.

Misogyny isn't the only reason she gets heat, but it is no doubt a large factor in it. And yes, some of here policies garner criticism and that's fair. But the amplitude and language in regards to Pelosi is different than men of a similar position policy-wise. It's just like Hilary. There are certainly reasons to be critical of her, but the nature of much of that criticism is quite different than that leveled towards her male counterparts.

Send her a Facebook or email and let her know the only way real change happens in
US politics is when you start locking up all of the above the law types from any party

Georgia let Russia hack their servers in 2016. And erased the whole server immediately after courts told them to let investigators look at them. Lock up the person responsible immediately

growing up I never bought into the hide under the desk 60's cold war stuff and I knew they wouldn't invade (just throwing a bar-b-q with some blondes on the beach would stop them) so I never had that worry...

...but after the petty and not so petty stuff the republicans pulled for Nixon I knew it wasn't this country they were working for

Rachel had a segment on whether the Southern District might just be independent enough to try to indict Trump (her guest thought that would be a real long shot) and can the statute of limitations be extended, which is just one more of those unprecedented areas we now face, so we don't know.

On another note, imagine if Trump and his kids were all convicted. That is going to be one crowded jail as he and his children are entitled to lifetime secret service protection.

^ From what I've heard from the experts, a sealed indictment right now would take care of the statute of limitations. The indictment wouldn't become public until he left office, but he would technically be indicted years earlier while in office.

White House reporters coming out of the meeting between President Trump, Senator Chuck Schumer and Rep Nancy Pelosi look stunned. I'm told all three were yelling at each other, sparring openly and accusing each other of mischaracterizing comments.

They're not playing anymore. And Pelosi's not rolling over on money for a wall like Schumer would.

President Trump said: I'd like to not have a government shutdown but border security is a top priority.

"Border security is extremely important and we have to take care of border security," Trump said.

President Trump in meeting: "We are going to talk about the wall...And I'll tell you it's a tough issue because we are on opposite sides."

Nancy Pelosi: I don't think we should have a debate in front of reporters...There are no votes for a wall.

Trump: If I needed the votes in the House I would have them...I need 10 Democratic Senators but I can't get it.

Trump talking over Pelosi: "We need border security. We need border security."

Nancy Pelosi: "Of course we do."

Trump: "We need the wall....Chuck did you want to say something?"

Chuck: The WaPo gives you pinocchios for misstatements on the wall.

Chuck: "We want to do what we did last year...Let's debate in private."

Trump: "See we get along...We need border security and the wall is part of border security."

President Trump repeatedly interrupted and talked over Nancy Pelosi as she made the case that they should continue debating in private and not in front of reporters.

Pelosi: This is not transparency when we can't agree on the same set of facts.

Trump: "We need border security."

Trump: "Nancy is in a situation where it is not easy for her to talk."

Pelosi quickly defended herself: Please don't mischaracterize the strength I bring as the leader of the House Dems who just had a big victory.

Pelosi adds, "We need to have an evidence based conversation."

Pres. Trump: "I am proud to shut down the government for border security...I will be the one of shutdown the government."

Trump adds that he won't blame Democrats for the shutdown if he shuts down for border security.

Trump did not like that Nancy Pelosi called it the "Trump Shutdown."

God, he's an idiot. He thinks he's going to bully her. Bad move. And bragging that he can proudly shut down the government?

And no Chief-of-Staff candidate in sight.

This Trump-Pelosi-Schumer argument demonstrates exactly why Republicans hate Nancy Pelosi with a passion.

She is utterly tenacious, unyielding, unflappable and CANNOT be bullied.

Her non-reactivity is also a narcissist’s worst nightmare. It strips them of all power.

I caught a bit of mini-press conference afterward (not verbatim, just my recollection):

Nancy Pelosi: I wanted to have the conversation in private. It had nothing to do with lack of transparency. I wanted a fact-based discussion. Trump was saying numbers that aren't accurate. I didn't want to have to say before the cameras, "You don't know what you're talking about."

Trump is the loud, obnoxious, overbearing know-it-all at the bar who thinks he's an expert on everything, but actually knows very little and still tries to filibuster every conversation. It was even worse to watch than reading the transcript. How +50 million people fell for this huskster con-man will mystify me until my dying day.
