A group of Black voters in Detroit announced they are suing President Donald Trump and his campaign, alleging the targeted effort to overturn the election repeats one of the "worst abuses in our nation's history" by attempting to disenfranchise African American voters.
Specifically, the suit takes issue with the campaign's effort to overturn the results of the election in Michigan by blocking the certification of results in Wayne County, home to Detroit, and attempting to "intimidate" and "coerce" state and local officials into replacing electors.
"Central to this strategy is disenfranchising voters in predominately Black cities," the suit alleges. "Repeating false claims of voter fraud, which have been thoroughly debunked, Defendants are pressuring state and local officials in Michigan not to count votes from Wayne County, Michigan (where Detroit is the county seat), and thereby disenfranchise hundreds of thousands of voters."
The NAACP Legal Defense Fund said it filed the new suit in a D.C. federal court on Friday on behalf of the three voters and the Michigan Welfare Rights Organization. The suit asks a judge to block Trump and his campaign from "continuing to exert pressure" on officials in Michigan, or any other state.
The president and his allies have for weeks been derisively accusing residents of Detroit and Philadelphia, which have large minority populations, of orchestrating a massive election fraud -- a baseless claim for which they have produced no meaningful evidence. The complaint pours through many of those statements, which include tweets and public statements, as evidence of the effort.
"No more," the lawsuit demands. "The Voting Rights Act of 1965 flatly prohibits Defendants' efforts to disenfranchise Black people and assault our Republic."
Good for them!
I'm not sure how this lawsuit makes sense. What is the legal injury? Most of Trump's lawsuits have been swiftly rejected. There has been no disenfranchisement.
Perhaps claiming some sort of stigma is now placed on their vote going forward? I could see that from a 50k point of view, but not sure whether that gets to an actual injury.
This has been such a delicious November. My god, the losses these guys take every single day...
So many flavors. From the slow knife turn to victory to the infighting to the carnie workers running the law suits.
Too bad Trump is just pouring gas on the country while it’s on fire. Hopefully democracy and the constitution come out the other side of this without permanent damage and people protect themselves from the covidiots and The Covidiot in Chief.
Best part of this Powell thing is all the righties were going on about how brilliant she is, how she should be the next Supreme Court nominee, etc. r/conservative was going crazy over her. Now they all have to pretend they never liked her after their god emperor kicked her out.
Haha. Yep. They were talking about trusting her plan and process. She’s brilliant. We just need to let her do her job. Etc... lol.

We basically have three years just to undo the damage already done. If serious inroads in regards to reversing the undemocratic and divisive path Trump has laid down haven’t happened by then, the democracy this country is based on is in peril. There will not be any turning back if the GOP continues to embrace the contamination that Trump has brought to the nation and how we conduct ourselves. _________________ You thought God was an architect, now you know

Some highlights from Trump's G20.
Quote:
At a Saturday session on international vaccine production and distribution, Trump delivered a perfunctory set of remarks where he made no commitment to expand the availability of U.S. vaccines. Then he left to play a round of golf while his counterparts were still speaking.
Quote:
According to audio obtained by the Guardian, Trump also told the leaders assembled virtually that he looked forward to working with them “for a long time,” even though most of them had already congratulated President-elect Joe Biden on his election victory.
Quote:
The next day in a meeting on climate change and the environment, Trump once again waved his “America First” standard, decrying global efforts to reckon with climate change. “The Paris accord was not designed to save the environment,” he said. “It was designed to kill the American economy.”

One of the first orders of business should be how the Senate Majority Leader can refuse to bring any bill up for a vote, simply based on the opposition party drafting it. This allows the majority party to refuse to vote on any bill they don't like no matter how widespread support is among the population they are there to serve, and fosters extreme partisanship in how we govern this country. It also allows members of a party opposing a very popular and well-constructed bill from having to go on record voting it down.
The Senate Majority Leader has a say in who the President can appoint to his cabinet, can overrule the President on Supreme Court Justice appointments, and can kill any effort to enact legislation to correct the problems we face, unless it's favorable to his/her party. That's way too much power without checks and balances, particularly when that person only needs the votes in a state like Kentucky to wield that power over the future of all Americans.

Michigan's 4-member State canvassing board is meeting now to certify votes.
Board is 2 D, 2 R. One R (Norm Shinkle) has reportedly said he might not vote to certify, thinks there should be an investigation into fraud first, which is not allowed by state law. His wife is listed as a plaintiff for the Trump lawsuit to overthrow the election, she filed an affidavit based on her observations as a poll "challenger".
Fortunately the other R appears to not be so stupid nor married to a Trump fan. And they only need a 3-1 vote to certify.

Brad Heath @bradheath
Aaron Van Langevelde, Republican member of Michigan's board: "It's not complicated. It's very simple. We're required to canvass the returns and determine the result." He says there's no authority for the board to audit or delay the results.
The board, he says, must certify.

I think you're being generous. I think we have until the midterms to course-correct. And the GA Senate runoffs will be critical because the incoming administration needs wins. If it can demonstrate that the dem policy is positively affecting lives, even in Trump Country, they may have a chance to expand a senate and house majority and get REAL change effected.
People in Trump Country vote against their interests all the time. That's baked into their racism/sexism/religious beliefs. I am hopeful, however, that if you actually take care of these people, the noise will come down. THey won't stop being who they are, but they'll see their lives improve and maybe ratchet down the nonsense.
I'm naive, but it's grounded in hope that if you do right by people, we can bring the noise down and get back on the right track. Everyone knows this in their personal lives and business. It's intuitive. Let's hope the rancor subsides, but it'll take work. And Mitch isn't going to help. _________________ You are under no obligation to remain the same person you were a year ago, a month ago, or even a day ago. The Pennsylvania Supreme Court on Monday dealt President Donald Trump's campaign yet another legal loss, ruling that mail-in ballots cast in the state's presidential election can be counted even if a voter failed to completely fill out the envelope.

Where are all the incompetent stooges, grifters, charlatans, criminals, and religious zealots? This is very disappointing.
No bloated God-emperor wannabe sitting in his gilded tower "interviewing" cabinet candidates, expecting everyone to bend the knee and kiss his ring for a chance to "serve" in his misbegotten administration. No nepotism. No hiring of people just to destroy things. No decisions based on how people look ("straight out of central casting" appointments). No dirty-looking freaks or relatives.
Just competent people being announced. _________________ “There is always light if only we're brave enough to see it, if only we're brave enough to be it.” --Amanda Gorman

Any other year this is just background noise of a normal election. This year it’s headline BREAKING NEWS.
Just makes Trump's losses louder and louder.
So much winning, you're not going to believe how much winning. Lol.
He's turning his loss in the election into a series of humiliating and embarrassing public rebukes.

Reports that GSA has sent letter saying the transition will begin.
Quote:
Brian Stelter @brianstelter
@KristenhCNN with the first-on-CNN scoop: "The GSA has informed president-elect Joe Biden the administration is ready to begin the formal transition process, according to a letter from administrator Emily Murphy sent Monday afternoon and obtained by CNN."

It appears Trump tweeted his administration is starting the transition protocols, for the benefit of the country. However, it also appears he tweeted that after the GSA sent the letter to Biden's camp, so Trump is not as magnanimous as he would appear to be in that tweet. _________________ Garvey, Lopes, Cey, Russell
Looks like being the National butt of the joke has finally gotten to King Naranja. Reports are that he not only signed off on the transition, but has also signed off on "Updates" to the personal residence at Mar-Lago and the Secret Service is accepting apps from those interested in transferring to Palm Beach.

President Donald Trump is upset with how his legal team has handled his challenges to the election, according to NBC News.
Trump is worried that they are "fools that are making him look bad," one official told NBC.
He also reportedly complained about Rudy Giuliani's appearance at a news conference last week
