That kinda happens when the ownership is bad for most of its history not to mention a franchise that has been on the move a couple of times. If they lose CP3 to free agency, that will basically wipe out any gains they have in acquiring the services of Jerry West.

And thats the problem with the Clippers perception. Until they win a championship or be seen as built to win a championship it will be hard to attract top tier free agents. CP3, Blake, DJ didn't go to the Clippers by choice, they were drafted or traded there. The Warriors couldn't attract anybody of value until they stated to win a championship with the players they drafted. Suddenly, everyone wanted to join them.

Chris Paul has been traded by the Los Angeles Clippers to the Houston Rockets.

Paul agreed to the opt-in of his contract to allow the trade to happen.

The Clippers will receive Patrick Beverley, Sam Dekker, Lou Williams and a top-3 protected 2018 first round pick in exchange for Paul.

Paul had until Wednesday to opt out of the final season of his contract.

During a meeting on Tuesday, Paul informed the Clippers that he planned to sign with the Rockets in free agency unless they worked out a trade.

It seems Paul was going to leave as a FA anyway, so it seems to me that the Clips actually did pretty well with this trade.

I guess. A lot money to spend though and lose an elite player.

Interesting
DAntoni has clear cut championship level talent now
But I'm not sure how much Paul and Harden complement each other

Didn't they want to make Harden full time PG?

But talent wise wow.
And do they have cap space to make a run for Blake?

Clippers, wow, one of their big three gone.

On to the start to their former existence.

Bye.

So they got rid one of the premier point guards in the NBA for a low 1st round pick and Sam Dekker?
Clippers back to being ignored in LA.
Guess they knew the writing on the wall when CP3 considered other options.
CP3 still gets paid and leaves the sorry Clippers. Win-win.

Disagree
They got something for an asset that was otherwise leaving for nothing

Pritchard should take notes.

But, they couldve gotten more for cp3.

Meh. Paul wasn't taking the Clips anywhere and he's getting up there in age for a small player. Losing him instead of giving him a max contract isn't such a bad thing, IMO.

I think Blake probably will stay. Paul was a well known annoyance to teammates, they'll probably be secretly relieved he's gone. And contrary to popular belief, Blake is way more productive when he's not playing with CP and can have the ball in his hands more.

Of course the Clips likely will fall a few games in the standings unless they can strike gold in trade or FA, but they might still make the playoffs, and it's not like they were ever going to be a threat to the Warriors anyway.

Not sure how things will work out for Houston. Paul + Harden is about as bad a backcourt fit as I can imagine, with both being so ball dominant, and Paul is declining, but still obviously a talent upgrade. Doesn't really matter, they won't beat or even scare Golden State. Paul should've gone to the Spurs if he wanted a chance at that.

Surround them with athletic wings and good 3 point shooters and its basically the Suns reincarnated....its pretty much the best chance he'll get at making or winning the NBA Finals.

Harden should be the one to adjust his game and learn how to play w/o the ball.

This is good for us... it makes the Clippers a less attractive destination for any of the elite free agents and by the time we're ready to challenge for the championship, he'll be too old.

Houston should be able to do some interesting things w both such good passers. Cp3 can get his on the post more. Is Harden good on catch and shoot? Cp3 can defend while Harden...wait he already takes play off so no net gain there. Should be plenty of fast breaks for Harden

But not enough to make a dent. Interesting to see Paul under mda

Once again, he's the best player on an NBA squad in LA.
