The merger will probably look more like one company taking over the other. One company has far more liquid capital than the other. |

I guess I missed this decision, originally there was a no poaching clause but the justice department requested it be removed.

Was anyone watching the end of the Players? Scheffler fired a brilliant final round 64 to finish at -20 with a 1-shot lead in the clubhouse. All three of Harman, Schauffele, and Clark had a chance to tie Scheffler with a finishing birdie on 18. Harman had a chance from about 18 feet that just slid by. Schauffele didn't hit a good approach so he had a long putt from about 60 feet that missed. Clark had the last chance from nearly the same spot that Harman had putted from, it looked like it was going in...and Clark suffered what had to be the worst power lip-out I've ever seen. Total 360 where the ball ended up as if he had left the putt a foot short, in front of the hole. Here's a look:

Scottie is the first back-to-back Players champion and he also won last week. When he putts well, it's very difficult to beat him. He's just amazing from tee to green. |

| Another golf post today: I am the proud son of an 82-year-old man who just shot 71 today at Rio Hondo. Yes, you read that right. My dad shot an even-par 71 at 82 years old. He went -3 on the front, including holing out for eagle from 65 yards away on a par-5. He then went +3 on the back. Eleven shots under his age! I looked this up, and the apparent world record for most strokes under one's age was done by a man named John Powell in 2017, at a Southern California PGA section senior tournament at Indian Spring Golf Club in La Quinta. At age 86, Powell shot a 64! |

Sheffler has now shot 27 consecutive professional rounds under par. The last time he failed to shoot less than par was in August 2023 when he shot an even par 70 at the Tour Championship. |

He's an absolute machine from tee to green. Even in a week where he putts poorly (and there are a lot of those), he still usually finds a way to contend or at least finish in the top 10. If he doesn't win a bunch of majors, where the greens tend to be very complex and fast, it will be because of his putting. But he's looked good with the flat stick over the past 2 weeks. |

I watched and was pulling hard for SDSU Alum Xander Schauffele but it wasn't meant to be as he had two bogeys in a row on the back 9, then left an eagle putt an inch short on 16 and missed a 6 foot birdie putt on 17 to finish one back.
Scheffler is an animal right now, even the other players are basically admitting that if he putts it even decently they will be lucky to beat him most weeks. He just doesn't make a lot of big mistakes, so seemingly the worst thing that can happen is bogey. Meanwhile Rory was in the water 5 times during the tournament.

How about Tiger making his 24th straight Master's cut after not playing competitively in months?
Pretty impressive considering guys like Rahm, McIlroy, Justin Thomas, Jordan Spieth, etc. are behind him or missed the cut entirely.
If he can make a run tomorrow to get into true contention, watch out.

I watched today, and it was a brutal day due to gusty winds on the grounds. Thomas was at Even par standing on the 15th tee today and he finished +7, missing the cut by 1. Insane. |

And he's pretty much out of it now.... |
His body just can't handle playing 72 holes of tournament golf anymore. Certainly not when you factor in walking the course. He moves around more deliberately than my 82-year-old father out there. |

Scottie is the heavy betting favorite going into tomorrow. The winner has almost always come from the final pairing in the 21st century, so it's looking like either he or Morikawa. Given that Scottie is the better player and also happens to be in much better form, you have to go with him. But I'm looking forward to watching. |

It will be interesting. Scottie had the great first round but morikawa has been a couple strokes better both the second and third days.

Watch out for Max Homa.
The winner almost always comes out of the last group, but Homa has been fantastic tee to green, he just can't make a putt.
If he sees one go in, he could get on a roll and win his first major, I love his demeanor on the course.

I was expecting Scottie to win and he did. Morikawa just hasn't been in great form despite obviously being close to the lead through 3 rounds, and he finally cracked on 9 and 11. Scheffler is nearly unbeatable when he putts it decently, which he did at Augusta National. He actually was below-average in greens in regulation, a rarity for him, but he missed greens in the right spots and he clearly putted well.
I'll set the O/U for career majors for him at 6.5. |

Yep, his consistency over time made him the absolutely the favorite going into that finally day, even when he has briefly faltered, he's still the top competitor.
