I don’t get it. Why trade?

That means we are giving up an expiring and ... a pick? Two expirings?

Some people are speculating that KCP is unhappy here with his decreased role. If that's the case a rebuilding team would be perfect for KCP. We were never going to keep him past this year anyway, just too expensive for what we get back.

I can’t imagine PHX would want KCP. He plays the same position as someone they just gave a ton of money to.

Someone mentioned a 3rd team. So it must be KCP to the third team, not PHX because it makes little sense given their roster and what they allegedly want back in exchnage for Ariza (playmaking PG and pick)

At this point, KCP <<< Ariza.

FTFY. KCP is inconsistent as hell while Ariza is still to do this day a true 3 and d role player with championship experience.

James Jones doing us another solid with Tyson Chandler and NOW Ariza.

Trevor has been an inconsistent shooter basically his entire career. KCP plays defense as well. The question would be can Ariza still play D on the bigger wing players like Durant. Or even Rudy Gay/Derozan who we had no answer for. If he can then we need him more than KCP.

Agreed. Having another bigger wing should give the Lakers more flexibility too defending the likes of Klay, Durant, etc.

Not to mention KCP is clearly a one year rental and wants to get paid again next summer. Rich Paul still needs to get him another big contract after turning down that Detroit deal last year. Guaranteed the team that pays him next summer won't be the Lakers.

Now Ariza I feel never wanted to leave LA as he went to school here too. I think he can be retained next summer too on a vet min type contract.

We get back an expiring in Trevor Ariza

That leaves little incentive for PHX to do a deal unless they just want to help us put which I doubt.

What is in it for PHX to trade for say KCP?

It's a 3 team deal where PHX gets draft picks. Did you not read the article? Or are you just commenting based on the title of the thread?

Suns isn’t exactly a place you go to to win. Only pain.

See Tyson Chandler.

Does Ariza shoot 93% from the free throw line?

Right. But if Ariza is the reason Houston sucks, then why isn’t he the reason PHX isn’t better?

He’s not THAT impactful. He’s A reason Houston is struggling, not THE reason.

Anyone remember how pivotal Ariza was during the 2009 playoff run? I think that's the year he learned how to shoot. Here the article: https://www.ocregister.com/2009/06/15/kobes-coaching-keyed-title/

Mbah a Moute I think aws just as important if not more so on the defensive end in Houston but isn't getting any credit.

I don't think Ariza makes us better, gives us another defender I guess. 33 years old now. If this happens KCP wants to move due to Heart "my favorite" emerging

That's because he only played 61 games and missed half the playoffs as well and in the 9 playoff games he played put up 2 ppg

So who is the third team? Philly? Fultz to PHX?

Dallas seems like a possibility. Lukamania is taking hold and they want to make playoffs. Matthews is their only 2. They're very undersized at the wing. But to do it, they'd have to trade Wes, who is shooting well but can't really defend anymone. Is that worth a second?

OKC could use Andre Roberson insurance. They could trade Patterson and Abrines plus a pick.

Question is do we want to help teams we might face in the playoffs? They probably wouldn't sweat Dallas, but OKC is another story.

I'm looking at East teams but not seeing many that have the expirings plus the incentive to make a win-now move.

I agree. That would be an x factor in the trade. This would really shore up out shooting. Rondo/KcP for Ariza/Daniel's? This also helps Kcp get more minutes on Phoenix.

While I’d be concerned about what we might have to give up, I’d be down to get Treavor back. Folks forget he also plays defense. He’s part of the reason Houston’s defense has left the stable.

If and when this trade happens, James Jones is lowkey Lakers MVP.
