d&d have backed out of their Star Wars deal

Definitely a good thing IMO. They seem to not care about the lore of fantasy/sci-fi franchises.

After that lack luster final season of GoT, they aren't exactly on a hot streak.

Pretty sure GoT succeeded in spite of those guys, not because of them. One of them wrote Troy, which I enjoyed but was a total cheesefest, and now Gemini Man, which I haven't seen but was panned in particular for its story/script. I credit George Martin mostly and also a fantastic cast for GoT.

Those guys are awful. Once the source material from GRRM ran out they turned GoT into a complete (bleep) show. Star Wars fans should be thanking their lucky stars they are out

Well we saw what happened to the show when they no longer had Martin's source to pull from.

Just read the entire plot for rise of Skywalker and I know how it ends.

I seriously hope this trilogy becomes uncannon somehow. The whole thing is just terrible. Just terrible. I feel like crying

I fear that Television has made a generation feel that unless we know all the details of every character’s backstory it means it’s bad and lazy.

I see that. It's funny because Tarantino once said in an interview that he leaves a decent percentage of his story a mystery (like what's in the briefcase in Pulp Fiction) and I think that's something that is under-appreciated. I think the unknown can be much more powerful than the known because the possibilities are endless. It's what made Bill (Kill Bill) so interesting - we only knew his reputation but never got to see if he really lived up to it.

Audiences were just fine knowing nothing about the Emperor for like 30 years before they got around to an origin story which everyone hated. Demanding a deep dive backstory on every character is very much a binge television mindset.

I loved Palpatine's trade embargo maneuvering backstory...ok not really.

As for Snoke, I just wanted to know how he knew to use the force since supposedly all the dark side sith/jedi people were dead. I thought it was poorly handled, but I'm not losing sleep over it.

Canonically there have always been tons of non-Sith/Jedi force practitioners, of which Snoke was one, and a powerful one at that. They definitely could have explained that better but like you said, not going to lose sleep over that.

Honestly I'm not really invested in the story in IX so much as I hope to see good lightsaber duels and references to the prequels/Anakin specifically. They do that and I'm happy.

Seeing this tonight. Doesn’t seem like people are as hyped for this one?

I'm seeing on Saturday. Assuming it's going to be very similar to Force Awakens, with a ton of original trilogy sentiments involved.

I think there might be fatigue. Or just people aren't as invested now that Luke and Han are killed off. I'm still going tonight and pretty excited to see how it ends.

Do we want to hold off on spoiler discussion until the weekend? Monday?

Think people should be given at least a week. Could always post a spoiler tag and make your text white so people can’t see it unless they highlight.

Be careful going through comments on reddit or IG or other social media. The trolls are out in full force spoiling the movie. I just had it happen to me in a Lakers reddit thread by some pos ass hole

I'm going Saturday. This should remain a no spoiler zone until at least Monday.

I'll wait a few weeks while the debate rages between those who call it awesome and those who (bleep) and moan about it way more than they should.

Didnt think they could make a movie worse than TLJ but they somehow suceeded. Good to know the story of Luke and Anakin meant absolutely nothing.
