^ I've been considering giving that a shot. Seems interesting, and a fresh take on the whole superhero genre.

^ It debuted last night and I thought I’d only watch a snippet before checking out ol’ reruns of The Greatest American Hero for childhood nostalgia.

It’s based on the violent comic book series by Garth Ennis which depicts heroes in a different light. Somewhere in vicinity of Brightburn. Must admit, it pulled me in and before I knew it, it was 5am. Glad they just renewed it for a 2nd season.

It's much better than expected, thought superhero fatigue would've set in by now but this is something else.

Even looking at him it's hard to equate Homelander to Lucas Hood with those crazy sinister expressions. Starr is doing a great job of playing an unstable super guy.

It's so odd seeing Simon Pegg playing such a straight role. I keep expecting something comedic to happen.

BTW, Why is the series called "The Boys"?

^In the comic books, the team is founded by CIA operative Lt Greg Mallory. According to the wiki, he coined the team name "the Boys" because in the East End of London "the boys" were who you said you'd send in to take care of troublemakers.

On the tv show, the team is also founded by a Mallory, though it is Grace Mallory (played by Laila Robins).

I can't figure out if I still find a 55 year old Elisabeth Shue attractive, or maybe I always see Ali Mills when I look at her.

Interesting. Brandon Sanderson wrote some "teen" novels that had a similar premise and I thought it was really uniquie. I didn't realize there was already a comic that was so similar.

Anyways on your rec, I knew I'd enjoy the show. Just saw episode 1 and it didn't disappoint my friend.

Didn't realize it's from the minds of the same team (Evan Goldberg, Garth Ennis, and Seth Rogan) that brought us "Preacher" on AMC. No wonder there's so many moments.

Watched ep. 4 last night. That was crazy.

Watched the first episode of "Shangri La" last night, which is the docuseries by Morgan Neville (who did the Mr. Rogers doc) about Rick Rubin, the music that has come out of his Malibu studio, and artist reflections on his creative process. It's pretty crazy and borders on absurd at times (for example the child actor who plays him as a kid wears a bald cap and sports a Santa beard . . . yeah . . . that's for real) but quite intriguing so far. Gonna see what episode 2 bring tonight.

Man, Jakie Rohr, City on a Hill, is a complex character. He's a coke sniffing, break all the rules cop that gets the job done. I can't give him a like or dislike. Will he go down in the end? I think there are 2 episodes left.

DTV is offering EPIX. Is it worth the money?

I rarely root for the cops in tv and movies. I didn't root for the police in the Wire first season. But I'm rooting for Jackie. But... it might be because he a criminal too.
