Loved the first two episodes of Shogun.
I remember watching the original TV series when I was kid and was traumatized by the boiling scene. It's just as horrific in this remake.

I'm loving this season so much. The Tracy Ullman character is so annoying and cringe in the best way.

Watched the first season of Resident Alien on Netflix. It is a really good show, Alan Tudyk is amazing.

Small recap of what I’ve been watching:

Heavy on the Survivor binge. Started watching a month ago but I have already gone through 6-7 seasons. I just pick the ones that are the most popular.

Watched the first episode of Shogun. It was pretty awesome.

Hawaii-five0 the remake. I left it around season 6 when it was airing so I decided to pick it back up. Nice little throw on I enjoy. By no means is this a “good” show or anything.

My wife watched One Day on Netflix. If you want to watch an emotional romantic show that will shatter your heart into pieces I recommend. I was getting sad watching it second hand. No thank you for me personally.

I started watching Suits from its pilot episode. WAAAAAY back in 2011.
I had the bandwidth to stay up on shows back then more than now.

If anybody in this thread hasn't watched it before. I still recommend it.

I think everything but the final season is on Netflix. Which isn't such a bad thing. Since when people started leaving the final couple seasons. It wasn't the same.

Shogun is the best new thing on TV right now. Has Game of Thrones potential. Arguably it has a higher ceiling.

Speaking of GOT. Showrunners, (D&D) David Benioff and D. B. Weiss have a new show coming out. Based off top notch sci-fi novels. The The Three-Body Problem.
Unfortunately, early reviews are in. And they fumbled the bag. Similarly to Game of Thrones. After the show passed what was written in the novels.

I think D&D can find lightning in a bottle in the future.
But if the reviews are true. Three Body Problem isn't that lightning.

Watched the first two episodes of Shogun. Digging it so far, it's definitely visual stunning, I've got a few issues with the storytelling so far, but they are minor and I think likely due to cutting things down for time and pace, but the performances are solid.

As for Benioff and Weiss, I think their lightning was a one time flash from what I've heard from people who have worked with them on GOT and the feedback on the new project. They are great with spectacle and production when they have a guide book, so to speak, but are a bit out their element when it comes to crafting story. That said, the first several seasons of GOT set the bar super high, so there may be some unreasonable expectations for them.

That checks out. We'll see how The Three-Body Problem shakes out as an ambitious, live-action, sci-fi TV show. If you look at other shows with similar scale in terms of intellectual property, like Halo (which I never watched) and Foundation. The consensus is they improved in their 2nd year.

I think some of it has to do with the character and plot building necessary in a 1st season. Some of it has to do with how CGI's prevalence has devalued it's impact. And probably other factors.

Long story short, it's complicated adapting large scale, live-action, sci-fi to TV in 2024. And it's not specifically a D&D problem.

I'm not rooting against D&D. But after how poor the showrunning was for the end of GOT. I'm not betting on them either.

New episode of Invincible is out. That was a loooong midseason break.

Most recent episode was solid. The way the show rebels against superhero tropes keeps it refreshing.

Judge Dee (Chinese series) on Netflix, not sure why but I’m binging this. It’s like Sherlock Holmes with a lot less comedy but ‘big budget’ feel

All done.

I enjoyed it. First episode is brutal and bloody. Particularly the first 10 minutes. That's something to keep in mind when recommending it to others.

But the source content is top tier sci-fi. And D&D did a good job adapting it for TV. Couldn't have been easy either. So much of the content has to do with theoretical physics and similar complex STEM sciences.

IMDB gives it a 7.6 currently. I have it over an 8/10 easy. Probably an 8.5.

I'm familiar with the books. I'll be interested to see how the show continues to adapt the content. It will only get more and more difficult.

Finished season 2 of Tokyo Vice. I remember enjoying season 1. I think season 2 is even better.

If TV perfection is a 10. Something that can never be reached in reality.

I give it an 8. IMDB agrees.

Hard to believe Curb Your Enthusiasm has finally come to an end but, even though it's only been 12 seasons, the show first aired in 2000. Larry David was in his early 50s when the show premiered.

I really enjoyed the cameos and callbacks to the Seinfeld finale.

Sad to see the show end. But it was a great finale!

Ripley is another 8/10 for me. If you like film noir. You'll probably rate it higher.

Haven't watched Apple TV's Sugar. Apparently the first couple episodes are out.
But the critics have seen the whole thing. And the whispers are. There is a twist later in the season that is a BIG.
I'll wait for the season to end, then binge it.

I've started season 5 of The Oval. The series has a great plot. The acting and dialog leave much to be desired. It's difficult to continue watching a show so horribly written and acted but that damn plot has me hooked. This series is a Tyler Perry that you may like, dislike or if you're like me possibly both.

I thought season 5 was 27 episodes. I only saw 21. It ended with a White House shootout.

Two episodes into Fallout (on Prime) and it appears to be good escapist entertainment. The "Is it your thumb or mine" scene at the very beginning is shockingly masterful. The second episode is quite the video cartoon, but entertaining throughout.

I remember The Ink Spots. The songs bring back memories. Leslie Uggams is almost unrecognizable.
