Haven't read the book but Kirk Goldsberry’s idea to move back the 3 pt line makes a ton of sense. Remember in the early 90s they shortened the 3 pt line and then moved it back out.

He's been saying it's time to move back the 3-point line for at least five years. Don't see it happening

James Harden would become pedestrian .... that alone would be worth it

Move it back, or add a four point line.

I'd almost advocate more for a three point line move back since everyone in the NBA these days make the three point line look like a joke instead of the skill it really was. Props to those that can make them, but still.

Bye.

It was Chick Hearn's idea to open up the floor by moving back the 3 point line, widening the Lane. To do this he suggested enlarging the floor. He saw how the game was changing due to the Athletes larger size and skill. He was right, these guys are ridicules pulling up closer to half court with a Jump Shot, not a heave, not a prayer, a jump shot. I'd like for them to bring back "Hand Checking", these guys today are too damn good to allow to run freely all over the court.

I miss Chick and you're right he always advocated for a bigger court or at least sidelines. Generally speaking nba needs to change the rules to bring back hand checking and/or enforce the traveling call to make the game a little more enjoyable to watch. Right now you can run past anybody and it's pretty much a foul if you touch them. Combien that with the 3pt shot becoming so popular and the court seems awfully small suddenly.

Yeah I’d advocate for moving it back a foot or two. Make it a lower percentage shot as I’m personally not a fan of jacking up so many 3s but what can you do, stuff evolves. Problem is, the corners stay the same unless they make the court wider, which would never happen.

I agree they should allow hand checking and get rid of this freedom of movement crap. Good O always beats Good D, and nowadays it’s hard to play good D without getting the foul call. As much as we hate on Harden here, you gotta give him credit. He’s just exploiting the rules and the way the game is called, and he’s the best at. If they’re not gonna call that step back a travel, or be able to just barrel into guys to get to the call then why wouldn’t he do it? Creates a lot of space for himself and free throws for himself. And he can hit his freebies.

I think moving the three point line back would cause scores and shooting percentages to go down, especially since players and teams are so reluctant now to shoot long 2s thanks to analytics.

OTOH one could argue that by moving it back, you put the last nail on the coffin for interior D, which is already poor. There is no way you can defend the interior with a farther 3 point line.

We'd probably become a playoff team if they moved it back far enough.

Even before we sign the second agent.

But self interest aside... I think shooting is a good thing.

I don't want the Laimbeers and Oakleys dominating the league again.

If you thought we sucked at 3pt shooting before, if the NBA moves the line back more there would certainly be a lot of nights where we dont make a single 3pt shot.

I agree with this, but the NBA like MLB don't value defense they want to see offense because they think it sells. To us who have been watching basketball, and baseball for years and love the value of tough defense it sucks.

Don't think you have to worry about that. Big men want to play like guards these days I don't think you will see posting up coming back.

Bingo. The over-reliance on the 3-ball has damaged the sport. It's becoming boring.
