The irony is that Kidd was hired to be a mentor for Lonzo who isn't even here anymore. So why is Kidd still? |
To mentor AC Fresh? |
We already knew we were going to pursue the AD trade before Kidd was even hired. There was always a strong possibility Lonzo was going to be part of that trade so this narrative of Kidd being hired mainly to be his tutor doesn't make a lot of sense. If we had managed to keep Lonzo it would have been a bonus.
What makes more sense is Lebron and Kidd are friends and that he's here to perform the TLue role when he was an A/C under Blatt. _________________ "Suck it up. Don't be a baby. Do your job." - Kobe Bryant |

Vogel has some nice defensive pieces that should work in tandem. Gotta optimize this talent, Coach. _________________ DEAR BASKETBALL |

If he brings that defense he had in Indy will be in great shape. The offense is good and will take care if itself |

IMO Vogel, Kidd and Hollins as coaches are equivaltent to Rondo, Beasley and Lance as players.. do not like them at all |

Not sure how you draw that conclusion. Can you elaborate? When you mention Rondo, at this point in his career I see his benefit as mentor is probably greater than what he'll give you on the court even though I think he'll still bring it at times during games.
I see this squad as being built for Vogel's coaching style given we have a couple of superstars surrounded by smart role players. _________________ Not a legend |

I don't know if others have read Cranjis' breakdown of Vogel's offensive schemes based on past NBA coaching stints but it's interesting to read. At the time he wrote it (May 2019), he was not enthusiastic about the hire because he was basing the projected fit on the core roster of Lebron/Ingram/Lonzo and very little perimeter shooting we had last season.
https://www.bball-index.com/frank-vogel/
After reading it, I'm suspecting the moves we made weren't just random BPA roster additions but are to construct the roster to fit into those offensive schemes.
I don't know if an A/C will be hired to design an offense for this team or whether it will rely heavily on Vogel's preferences, but I do think it's a good thing we waited until the roster was formed before just hiring a well-known name whose offensive philosophies may not match the roster. _________________ "Suck it up. It was a no. And with signing Rondo and Cousins and the FO micromanaging, I already feel sorry for Vogel. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023. |

"Basically," Kerr told The Athletic's Tim Kawakami on Wednesday. "We talked about the LA situation. I called him to tell him that they had asked permission and that we would grant it.
"And so I don't know if they've spoken with him yet, and I don't know what his final answer would be. I don't even know what they would be offering him. _________________ Coach Vogel, Kidd, Hollins

I believe Vogel can Maximize this roster. Remember when he was with the Pacers he made guys like Roy Hibbert and Lance Stephenson look like allstars. Now he has real allstars and a better overall roster. Vogel is the defensive coach this team needed for years. |

Seeing as how the offensive weapons have changed dramatically from last season I'm glad we waited. |
That doesn't make any difference. A sharp offensive mind is a sharp offensive mind. If he's really a specialist, he'll know how to design an offense that maximizes the makeup of the roster, regardless of what players are on it. If he'd only be good for one group he's not a specialist. _________________ “Christ did not die to forgive sinners who go on treasuring anything above seeing and savoring God. Someone provide a recap of Clifton's interview with Vogel when it airs on Spectrum. _________________ “Christ did not die to forgive sinners who go on treasuring anything above seeing and savoring God. And people who would be happy in heaven if Christ were not there, will not be there."

I agree with Kidd and Hollins but Vogel has some talent. I'd compare him to Javale if we're using last seasons meme squad signings. He's a big upgrade over Luke even though I preferred Ty Lue over Vogel. |
