Im all for bringing back the Beast, he was our best defender last year
Does everyone simply ignore the fact that JR went right back to playing ZERO defense this past season? We're literally talking league-worst defensive rankings with him on the floor. Link
He'll give you buckets, rebounds and a few assists. If you want good defense, Randle isn't your guy.

Yep, I said it.
Randle would be a reliable 15/10 guy as a 3rd-5th option. We control if we have a chance at him, not NOP.
Offer Randle 12M-15M/year for 4 years with a team option on the 4th.
I'm fine getting Randle AND Kawhi or Irving, but not INSTEAD... _________________ “Always remember... Rumors are carried by haters, spread by fools, and accepted by idiots.”

Shocking actually.
Not even close, she is smart enough to let experienced executives run the organization instead of surrounding herself with friends. Those executives have made the Saints a perennial Super Bowl contender. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023.
We could trade Ingram/Kuzma/filler to create room for Randle if we land Kyrie or Kawhi. I'm good with that.
How about we work out a S&T with New Orleans for Randle? Oh wait...
I liked JR but his low ball IQ will not sit well with Lebron. Hard pass for me
Not disputing what you're saying but Randle's BBIQ is no lower than Tristan Thompson and he worked out quite well next to LeBron.
Randle in the P&R with Lonzo was not a bad player.

Because we need another low IQ player who can't shoot
Randle is a finisher, not a creator. That type of player does well next to LeBron. Watch Randle/Lonzo connection...I predict the same with Randle/LeBron in the P&R.
One of the things LeBron didn't have a lot of last year was someone setting hard screens for him. Lonzo set most of the good screens LeBron got. Get Randle to buy into that type of role and he's a great fit without needing to think too much. LeBron spoon-feeds his guys, negating the need for a high basketball IQ...which is good and what you want but in a limited role, not a deal breaker.
A YouTube highlights vid? Ok fine two can play at this game:
Alex Caruso season highlights:
Boy he sure does look good, let’s lock him up to a 5 year 100 million dollar contract.
In all seriousness, Randle can’t shoot, plays 0 defense and is an offensive foul machine. No thanks. I hope we’re done having empty stats bums on this roster like Randle and Clarkson.

Am I trippin or was Randle starting to improve defensively under Luke before regressing with the Pels? _________________ "Chick lived and breathed Lakers basketball…but he was also fair and objective and called every game the way it was played."

There were only 5 players who had averaged more points and rebounds than Julius
Giannis
Embiid
AD
Towns
Westbrook
Let's stop acting like he doesn't have some value.
He does add value, although his defense negates a lot of his scoring prowess. NBA RPM numbers has him as about the 100th best player in the league. So he’s the 3rd best player on an average club. That makes sense to me. The 100th best paid player in the league last year was Wilson Chandler at 12.8M.
Give Randle a bump due to youth, he’s about a $14M a year player who is going to get you 4-5 extra wins vs an average NBA player starting in his place. Right about the same amount of wins that Kuzma will net you interestly enough.
The real question is, does he fit what we or any team is trying to do. If you are trying to go to the playoffs and win titles, an average shooting poor defending undersized C isn’t a very attractive piece. That’s why I believe we moved on from him.

Would love to see him re-signed. I think Randle is and will continue to be a very good player. Not a superstar but a solid contributor and getting better. An example would be his improved 3pt % this past season. Relentless worker, potential 20/10 impact for years to come. Lakers could( and probably will) do a lot worse.
Problem is he is not the “max player” that is so needed by many. It would always be held against him. Also fit with a James team and style of play. Any player that takes the ball out of James hands is a liability. On defense it would be difficult fit too. Not quite the defensive presence needed to play alongside James.
If the Lakers were to go in that direction it would be fun to watch develop. Instead of one max player the Lakers choose to split the money between two or three solid players. Something like McGee, Randle and one of Bullock, KCP or A. Rivers types for example. Draft Garfield or Hunter and embrace the team for a couple years.

I've seen a lot of teams in the playoffs who were bullied in the interior.
Even Millsap looked like he was no longer powerful enough... and Ibaka is getting worked by Milwaukee's bigs.
Now I agree with your points about Randle to a certain extent, and what others have said about his defensive inconsistency, but he seems to have improved his outside shot... and I think he has something to offer for a lot of teams. He is undersized so he wouldn't be the solution against Giannis or Embiid... but he would be effective against many teams.
As you say it's a question of fit... but if his outside shot keeps improving maybe you can play him with someone like McGee who is a good rim protector, but a little bit weak in terms of an interior bully.
