assume we have LBJ, AD, Kawhi and Kuzma and that JJ/Mo/Bonga are gone. Obviously we'd need guards. We have the room and then at least 8 minimum contracts (!). what guard is the most likely to come for the room?
honestly, i'd expect rondo. beverly is probably a prayer at the room. |

Danny Green is the obvious answer. You re-sign Rajon Rondo, and hope that you can bring a bunch of vets on board for the veteran minimum. _________________

Let’s say we don’t, then who should we get? Nevermind, I’ll just start a new thread... _________________ “You have to dance beautifully in the box that you are comfortable dancing in.” - Kobe Bryant |

Need a knock down shooter. Anyone sharing the floor with AD, LBJ, and Kawhi will be open all day. I say Seth Curry. |

Darren Collison with the RE and then hope you can lure McGee, Ariza, Rondo, Korver, Taj, etc with the minimum |

Give me either Taj or McGee, the former would be a nice piece off the bench, the latter could start and allow us to play Kuzma in small ball lineups. Realistically, if we got McGee, you could get Rondo, Caruso, McGruder, Ariza and Baynes (if bought out) for the minimum
Rondo/Caruso
Kawhi/McGruder
LeBron/Ariza
Davis/Kuzma
McGee/Baynes
I’d try to run LeBron/Kawhi/Ariza/Kuzma/Davis late in games _________________ #18 next... |

Yes, sadly, I would expect that the most likely to take the RE in this scenario is Rondo. Obviously, there are others I'd prefer, but I think guys like Collison can get more than the RE with no problem. |

George Hill probably best and realistic enough. Beverley, Collison and Curry can get 7+ mil atleast which is full mid level. Since that guy will be our 5th best player you can't sign someone like Rondo because he can't shoot and teams will leave him open to defend our stars. |

I highly doubt that Danny Green, Collison or Beverley would be available for anything less than 10M with a bunch of teams with cap space.
I'm uncertain what the market would be like for D. Rose though. If he wants to ring-chase, I'd rather have him for the RE than Rondo. |

You could sign a few guys from the D League and that team would still win the title. |

What happens when the opposing team starts leaving Harrison Barnes open for the 3.
Moral of the story, defenses make adjustments. You gotta have guys on the court that can knock down shots. Let's say Kawhi/LeBron/AD are the SF/PF/C, if your two guards are sitting there shooting 30% from downtown, your massive superstar offensive advantage is effectively neutralized. _________________ A banana is killed every time a terrible thread or post is made. Seth Curry, only realistic option especially if it's a 3 year contract |

One of them will get the RE.
Teams don't always spend all of their cap space and there are generally a few vets over 28/29 who get disappointed in their offers and decide to ring chase.
IMO, however, we end up with Boogie on the RE, trade for a SG and get PGs at the minimum (Rondo +).
QUESTION FOR DRAFT NERDS:
After July 1, can we trade our 2020 pick, or does the conditional 2021 pick trade prevent it? _________________ On Lakersground, a concern troll is someone who is a fan of another team, but pretends to be a Lakers fan with "concerns". |

You spend the rest of your money on a PG. I think it is easier to find a big who you just need to rim run, play d, and grab boards than a decent starting PG for the Room Exception. |

I think Danny "could" follow Kawhi for another run at a ring, I'd also love

Would they be the first teammates to win 3 titles on 3 different teams? |

We could potentially sign both Marcus Banks and Stromile Swift for the vet minimum. |

If we were lucky enough to land Kawhi, the Room Exception would almost certainly go to a starting PG.
However, you’re not going to land Beverley, Curry or Collison at that amount. Collison might be the most likely of those three, but another team will almost surely offer him twice the amount over more than one year. He’d need to be very thirsty for the ring in order to take it with the Lakers.
Sadly, Rondo is the most likely player... even though he’s only worth the minimum at this point, IMO.
my preference would be to try to add a big or a wing that can 3-and-D off the bench. Just sign Rondo and Caruso and Shumpert to minimum deals, and hope you can pick up a waiver player mid season. |

Exactly my thoughts.
Collison would be talking less than his market value, so I'd try something "off the book" (like offer him the room this year on a 2 year deal with 2nd year a player option), and possibly "upgrade" him to the full MLE next season.
I've seen Green's name on this thread, and while I like him a bunch, he is a wing, and we already have the 2 best wings in the game in this scenario (LGJ and KL), so we need a PG who can shoot, defend and handle the ball, and Collison fits the bill best IMO.
I'd also try to resign Jav, maybe again with a future promise, as we'd be asking him to take a lot less than his market value.
Then try the win a chip and build your value angle with guys like Ariza, Bullock etc at the vet min.
It would be a good problem to have. _________________ "Rangers lead the way!"
