Even if/when Dwight gets cut, those other guys we were considering will likely still be available. I don't see the issue here with signing him. He will give the spot minutes we need at the position and he'll clean up on boards. This is not superstar Dwight anymore and I think even he knows that.

At this point, it is what it is. As someone said, FO was pot committed. They had some earlier chances to take a different course, but here we are. Hope Dwight plays well.

Per Woj:

Quote:
Howard came to meet Lakers after dropping 25 pounds; showed his back was healthy. Lakers want him to protect rim/rebound in limited role. There was sense Howard realized he hit "rock bottom" and had been humbled. Still they'll judge him on actions, not words. He's been warned.

Woj's earlier tweet said some players were involved in the decision. If they're on board with it and Vogel's on board with it, I'll roll with it too.

Fingers crossed.

If you google old stories for “Dwight Howard humbled”, you can see that that has been the narrative around him since as early as 2013. Let’s see if it’s real this time.

If he can give us that - or maybe 10 and 8 in 20 min a game -- and be a dedicated, mature, professional, then this will be a good get.

If not, then I want Rob speed-pressing the EJECT button like he's playing in a Million Dollar Tournament on Jeopardy.

Hate having to root for him but I'll just consider this like "rooting" for Karl Malone when he was a Laker. Rooting for the team, not the Howard.

The funny thing is, I am ok with this. I know he is healthy and I have seen recent training videos and he is in great shape.

I guess why I am ok with this is, for him, it could be a turnaround for him. Perhaps he believes in redemption, in second chances. I don't think we should think that folks don't deserve that. Look at Ron Artest/Metta. Talk about a guy whose life turned around. I am not comparing the two but he did get a chance at some redemption.

For Howard, its a chance to help a squad of talent.....I hope his head is on straight and he is ready to go.

Not a Dwight fan but Lebron gonna keep him in check.

That's what I think. Lebron not going to take any crap.

Howard not "the man" in this situation.

Lebron the Alpha Dog - he's gonna set the tone. Howard in his BEST of days was nowhere NEAR the Alpha Lebron is. If there's any doubt, just ask Kobe…

The good thing is his desire/need to get post touches has been beaten out of him. If he can still defend and rebound that is what we need. I do think he is still a pick and roll threat. That is easy for him. Rondo/Bron will get him some dunks. Does he still have it in him to compete at a high level defensively is what I will be looking for.
