Quote: | Dodgers Favorites to Land Top Shortstop Wilman Diaz in the International Free Agent Class
Los Angeles might be on the verge of adding another huge talent in Wilman Diaz.
Diaz is rated out as the best shortstop available on the International market. He is from Venezuela and playing out of the same program that produced Diego Cartaya, Los Angeles’ #5 prospect in the organization. The Dodgers are reportedly expected to sign the young shortstop, who might be the best teenager in the entire class.
Scouts view Diaz as a guy with 5-tool potential at just 17 years of age. He has demonstrated the ability to hit the ball the other way, but also features a natural loft in his pull-side swing. His ability to hit right now is what really impresses the Dodgers and teams around the big leagues at the moment.

Dodgers are expected to add another potential five-tool player in Venezuelan SS Wilman Diaz. Diaz is arguably the best teenager in the class.
Pipeline Grades: 60 Hit | 50 Run | 55 Field | 55 Power | 55 Arm, per @tylerjspicer.
|
Quote: | It’s already been reported that the Dodgers are favorites to sign Jesus Galiz, a 16-year-old catcher out of Venezuela. But their top target appears to be a 17-year-old shortstop, also from Venezuela.
Wilman Diaz is ranked the second-best international prospect by MLB Pipeline, and No. 7 by Baseball America.
Ben Badler at Baseball America notes that the Dodgers signed the top Venezuelan international prospect in both 2018 (catcher Diego Cartaya) and 2019 (outfielder Luis Rodriguez), with Diaz the top-ranked Venezuelan in this class.
“Diaz has the defensive actions and arm strength that give him a chance to stick at shortstop, though depending how big he gets, he might end up at third base,” Badler wrote.
|
Quote: | The 2020-21 international signing period is upon us, with the Dodgers signing a pair of Venezuelan teenagers to top their class on the first day of the period.
|
Wow, so we get the top catcher and top SS international free agent this year? Both teens from Venezuela? |

Baseball America released their top 100 prospects list. Here are our Dodgers prospects:
53) Ruiz
68) Gray
87) Busch
Jeter Downs checked in at #71
Looks like Busch is now ranked ahead of Hoese. |

The Blue Jays are about to get George Springer too, according to reports. Along with having signed Yates today, I would say that it makes it far less likely that they could still be in on Justin Turner. |

They apparently offered 6/$125MM or so.
Jon Heyman just tweeted that the Dodgers are one of "many teams" in on Semien. Perhaps we see him as a bounce-back candidate and if he can be had on a 1-year deal to rebuild his value, we see an opportunity. Dude put up 4.7 WAR in '18 and an incredible 8.9 in '19. |

The Los Angeles Dodgers are monitoring the market for right-hander Trevor Bauer and could be a player depending on the price, sources tell ESPN. Focus for the Dodgers now remains on a right-handed infield bat, but Bauer and the Dodgers remain a possibility as his market develops. |

I love the way Friedman runs the team. I never doubt the guy. Best GM we have had since Branch Rickey probably on the same level as Buzzi Bavasi. Another tier or several tiers above the likes of Fred Claire, Dan Evans, Ned Coletti, Paul DePodesta and "The Sheriff". |

Quote: | Dodgers: Latest Odds Have Los Angeles As Trevor Bauer’s Most Likely Landing Spot
The Trevor Bauer to Los Angeles rumors seem to grow a little more with each passing hour. The Dodgers were connected to Bauer from the start of his free agency, but talk around the two sides seems to have picked up quite a bit in recent days.
Those rumors aren’t going away any time soon it would seem, as the latest sports betting odds confirm it. Bovada listed the Dodgers as the favorite to land Trevor Bauer in free agency with the Anaheim Angels just behind them. Los Angeles is at +150 while the Angels are at +200 to sign the right-handed pitcher. |
Quote: | Justin Turner May Be Close To Re-Signing With Dodgers
JAN 22, 2021 8:39 AM
The Los Angeles Dodgers and Justin Turner may be nearing an agreement on a new contract.
Turner is reportedly seeking a four-year deal that would take him through his age-39 season.
The infielder hit .307/.400/.460 in 150 at-bats for the Dodgers in 2020. |

The Red Sox and free-agent utilityman Enrique Hernandez have made progress toward a contract and could have an agreement by the end of the weekend, according to Jon Morosi of MLB.com. |

I'd like to see Turner back but if there isn't a DH in the NL, then signing him for 4 years would be a huge mistake. Unless it's at a low AAV, there are team option(s), etc. it just doesn't seem prudent.
It'll be infuriating if signing him to a bad deal costs us a big free agent, or retaining one of ours. Look no further than how Boston handled their house and it ended up costing them Mookie. |

I've heard some rumors that the Dodgers and Turner are discussing a 4 year, $40MM deal. Not sure where I first heard it but I definitely remember hearing it a couple of days ago. If true, this could be similar to what the Yankees did with LeMahieu, paying him a lot of dollars but spread out over 6 years to reduce the luxury tax hit. If the Dodgers did this with Turner, just $10MM annually is nothing to a team like us. I figured he'd be worth about 2 years and $30MM, so perhaps it would just be a way to lower his AAV and cap hit annually.
The Bauer stuff is interesting. If the Mets are truly out, maybe it's down to the Dodgers and Angels, or a "mystery team." The Angels clearly, clearly need Bauer more than we do. But I wonder what Bauer's appetite is to sign with them, given that they offer less of a chance at winning and that they also have Mickey Calloway as their pitching coach. Bauer and Calloway infamously had a falling out while the latter was the pitching coach with the Indians. So my guess is that the Angels are going to have to cough up the clear, clear best offer in terms of most dollars. Seems like the Dodgers are interested in a short-term deal, like what we offered Bryce Harper in the past. Maybe one year $35-40MM, two years $70-75MM, something like that. Maybe the Angels would have to go to something like 6 years and $180MM, if it's not really his first choice.
We're apparently one of a few teams still in on Marcell Ozuna, also. |

The Dodgers also have Rob Hill from Driveline as one of their pitching coordinators and Bauer has trained there many offseasons and speaks very highly of it.
That being said, I won't believe he's signing here until it happens. |

Quote: | Dodgers: Kiké Herandez Signs Multi-Year Deal With the Boston Red Sox
Kiké’s time in Los Angeles has come to an end.
For some Dodgers fans around Los Angeles, today is a very sad day. Kiké Herandez has become a fan favorite around Chavez Ravine over the last few years, winning over the hearts of fans with his sparkling personality and humor.
Unfortunately for those fans, Kiké will not be returning to the Dodgers. The free-agent super-utility man has reportedly signed a new deal with the Red Sox today that is for 2 years. The news comes just hours after it was reported that the 2 sides could have a deal done by this weekend. He will be paid $14 million in the deal, per Mark Feinsand. |
2 years $14M is pretty reasonable.
Taylor got 2 yrs $13.4M last year and he was still under team control. |

I'm glad the team finally won the World Series so it won't be as hard saying goodbye to one of the longer tenured Dodger players to free agency. |

As much as I hate to see him go, I’m happy for him and hope he gets some AL all star appearances. And like Lakersken80 said, happy that he got a ring before his departure. |

I'm really sad. $7M a year for a clutch AF hitter that can play every position. Man, just figured we could squeeze him in. I figured he'd cash in big if he left but $7M just feels like we should have kept him... _________________ KOBE |
