So is Gasol getting bought out/waived? I'm confused
I think he still has a role here, but if we actually plan on using DAJ, I'd begrudgingly cut Gasol loose for a small-ball 5 type, the Kieff role
Nobody really knows. After DJ officially signs hopefully we will get more clarity. _________________ Nobody in the NBA can touch the Laker brand, which, like the uniform color, is pure gold.
Gasol was basically the 4th most impactful Laker just behind LeBron, AD, and Caruso.
This is where the numbers/analytics don’t match the eye test. Gasol wasn’t good last year…he had a bit of a hot streak from 3 but other than that he was abused by the opponent particularly on the defensive end.
Gasol does other things that fans don’t keep an eye on. Whether that be spacing, setting screens, hockey assists, him on the floor makes the Lakers a +.
When LeBron/AD went down, Lakers still went 4-3 with Gasol starting, still a winning record.
Once Drummond started, Lakers started losing and posted 8-9, a losing record.
Pretty much. But yet still people wanna go "Who cares if the stats say he played really well for us.. I didn't recognize it.. so thats all that matters."
Agree 100%, all the haters see is the pick and roll, but missing in the equation is AD roaming around the basket to correct those mistake. Before AD and LBJ went down Lakers has a 21-7 record one of the best defense in the league and Marc has a +83 in 28 games. Once AD goes down Harrell is too short to be an intimidator in the paint.

There must be something going on behind the scenes; He may just not mesh well with the other guys. _________________ LAKERS 2019-2020: NBA World Champions!

I'm expecting a Gasol trade to occur the moment Jordan signs. _________________ A three headed monster... Jeannie, Pelinka, and Ham... another terrible season.
Who would trade for Marc Gasol?
I think if he does not get a chance to contend, he'll probably go to greener pastures so he has little to no value to rebuilding teams, and at 37 he offers not enough to move the needle for most teams.
Doest it make sense for the Lakers to buy him out?
Tbh I expect him playing for the Lakers, another contender if he gets traded/bought out, or returning to Spain (some rumors about reuniting the Gasol brothers, who knows)
From my point of view, his skillset is still valuable to the Lakers for another run. Having depth + options is great. Having 3+1 Centers in a 82 RS and 16+ postseason does not sound crazy at all.
One of the negatives on Marc will be the increase in the pace with Fizdale's offensive scheme. Anyone can elaborate how much Fizdale pushed the pace in his previous teams?

Will it be faster than Pat Riley’s showtime pace with 42-year old Kareem trailing the breaks?
The Lakers have agreed to trade Marc Gasol, a 2024 second-round pick and cash to the Grizzlies for the draft rights to Wang Zhelin, sources tell ESPN. Deal saves Lakers $10M. Gasol and Grizzlies will work together on waiver and release to allow him to remain in Spain w/ family.

It was good idea and an aggressive move to get Marc, just bad timing with his age, COVID, etc. If we had gotten Marc even one or two years before, who knows?
Glad Memphis did us a solid, and glad the Lakers didn't just unceremoniously cut him. Best of luck to Marc (as long as it isn't for some other team against us in the playoffs).
Disappointing. I was hoping they could find a happy compromise and keep all three centers. Gasol has a skillset the others don’t have.
I am just not as optimistic that Jordan has enough in the tank to make a difference. Both he and Howard are best suited to be limited role players. And the Davis will play more center fantasy is just misguided. Davis is a perimeter player. It’s his nature.
Oh well, obviously many seem to be excited that Gasol is gone. To me it just creates another weakness in the roster. Maybe the center from China will be brought in to play some mpg. No, I’m not serious!

So who is going to space the floor at Center then? Surely Dwight and DeAndre can’t play all 48 minutes? _________________ Damian Lillard shatters Dwight Coward's championship dreams:
Marc was traded to Memphis by the Lakers. He came back to the Lakers and he is now traded to Memphis again by the Lakers. Crazy. _________________ Nobody in the NBA can touch the Laker brand, which, like the uniform color, is pure gold.
Basically what we all knew last year, Marc signed for two years so he could get the one year salary he was willing to play for. He never intended to come back to the NBA and it really just came to finding a way to limit his tax hit this year.
We also got a $2.7m trade exception . _________________ Austin Reaves keeps his game tight, like Kobe Bryant on game night.
