You mean the generational takent of Kobe and a once in a lifetime genetic marvel that was Shaq...yeah I ain’t hating those players.

A 3peat that some classify as rings still left on the table while Kob’s body got bodied, while Shaq’s Achilles migrated to his pinky toe. Yeah, that’s the game I would hate to play.

Russ has carried most his teams for years. We know AD plays defense and dudes that play defense have the battle scars to prove it. Bron has been an iron man and then he got to LA and started looking like the pine man. How long will those 3 hold it together? Shaq/Kobe were in their primes and still in their 20s.

Pay the MFing toll to the bball gods. We’ve seen how relentless that guy could be. Pay for even more depth and even more in your assets pool, so that if we need anything else to prolong our trio and their associated title run, we can pool those assets together and get em even more if a guarantee in a ring.

That’s have the game should be played. Playing it any other way is where you’re hating the player (and their associated health/well being).

Alternatively, you can find a different way to play the game.

1971-72 Lakers won with the highest scoring offense in NBA history (to that point)
1979-80 Lakers won with an unstoppable half court offense
1981-82, 84-85, 86-87 & 87-88 Lakers won with Showtime - incredible fastbreaking teams
1999-00, 00-01 & 01-02 Lakers won with a classic inside/outside duo
2008-09 & 09-10 Lakers outskilled their opponents
2019-2020 Lakers shutdown the defensive paint and dominated the offensive paint.

2021-22 is a different season with different personnel - but the pieces are there to win it all.

^ What am I supposed to retort with Doc?

I actually agree with all of it. My approach is just foolproof it. Don’t allow any funny business to derail the movement.

AC works well with Bron. He is one of our best perimeter defenders. He shot 40% from 3 last season (granted it was in low volume).

So he’s clearly an asset imho and if it ends up being a total of 38m in salary/tax combined for this guy, so be it. Foolproofing a title is worth it...anything else would be foolish.

Clippers payroll and luxury tax combined now precisely at $300M.

Other current top expensive teams:
Warriors - $362M
Nets - $306M
Bucks - $200M
Jazz - $192M
Lakers - $189M

3 teams paying over 300 mil combined salary and tax….. jazz paying more luxury tax than us.

And the Clippers, Jazz, and Nets have no championships. Paying more tax can't guarantee you a championship.

This is for upcoming season, so jury is still out, but at least they are trying.
