Shaquille O'Neal — "Dr. O'Neal," if you ask him — is hoping to help cure the Sacramento Kings.
As the Kings continue their image makeover that was sparked by the late May sale of the team to Vivek Ranadive, they have made a big and bold move by adding O'Neal as a minority owner. The TNT analyst once gleaned pleasure in deriding the Kings, whom he owned in a very different way when his Lakers thrice knocked their rival out of the playoffs en route to titles in 2000, 2001 and 2002. Now his joy will come from seeing one of the league's worst-performing franchises turn things around.
Shaq continues to get on teams that Lakers fans hate and consider rivals. Heat, Cavs, Celtics and now Kings. At least he isn't working for the Maloofs.

That would be like the Browns letting John Elway own a stake of the team.
I just checked sacbee.com and so far, no one had a problem. Some were praising the new ownership. _________________ Defense is my business, and business is good!
This is like Paul Pierce buying a stake in the Lakers.
paul pierce went to highschool in inglewood. so its not the same. you can run with that logic for awhile at least. with shaq, there's no good excuse to pull out for the fans. _________________ LAL4K3RS wrote: He(Kobe) is the white haired kung fu master that you realize is older than dirt but can still kick your arse when in a sitting position drinking a nice herbal tea.

Most players own or get involved in other teams because they have a chance for a bigger role. Whereas if they remain with the same organization they played their entire career, they won't have the same power unless the current management relinquishes that role. Its happened in pretty much in all sports, from basketball, baseball, football, etc. These hall of fame players get to take their name and credibility to other organizations to try to raise the level that its lacking. In my opinion, it just speaks volumes about the power of the Laker alumni that other organizations welcome our players in their post playing careers.

I think it's great. We all tend to think of Shaq as a clown, but he's a smart guy who managed his money well. You don't hear of too many former NBA players who have the money to buy a minority stake in a sports franchise. _________________ "Suck it up. Don't be a baby. Do your job." - Kobe Bryant

No surprise here. I mean, we're talking about a guy who had the gall to play for the Celtics after being a Laker. That just does not happen. Nor should it.
There are certain guys, that once they become a Laker, they're a Laker through and through til death. Players like Magic, R. Fox, AC, Kupchak, Wilkes, Kareem come to mind. And, really, the list goes on. Shaq was just never one of those guys. _________________ The butter's hard and the eggs are chillin' in the dark.
