I know Vanderbilt is an elite defender. How is his shooting? Is he Stanley Johnson on roids or legit 3+D?

Nice - will Ham actually utilize him is the question

Great motor and upside as a wing defender, if I'm him I lock myself in the gym all summer shooting spot up threes. He gets that down his value goes through the roof.

His athleticism on the wing should make a tremendous impact. He should fit well in the rotation, great motor, good rebounder!

Could be fun.

He looks more like Wenyen Gabriel on steroids.

I love how he makes hard efforts to rotate over and block shots, even when it's not on his man, and how he runs the floor hard on fast breaks.

Even better, he's under contract for next season.

I'm really stoked that we have him now!

Probably the most important player in the trade.

For me, it's mostly it's how he patrols the passing lanes and anticipates plays.

Now I'm trying to envision a defensive-minded 5 that can also potentially become a closing lineup.

Yeah it looks like he has good anticipation, which is real important to become a good defender.

Looks like he also moves well without the ball and is a lob threat. I can see LeBron enjoying being on the court with him.

For the official Vandy thread, this will always be my favorite video clip of him in action (that is, until he produces masterpieces in a purple 'n gold uni )

Honestly, I'd go with Troy at the two in a purely defensive lineup. He's been looking really good for awhile and should shine even more now that there is no reason for him to play as a SF in most cases. Pat Bev is a better pest on opposing PGs, but Dennis is no slouch in competing on that end this season.

Or maybe have Austin as the SG and go big with Troy as the PG? You would have two nice play makers in Austin and LBJ, so it wouldn't be a total mess offensively while they lock down defensively.

Troy and Austin at the 2 and 1 respectively? I love the size and defensive lineup we can assemble with those two, and some others we now have.

Yep, Troy has been solid for awhile now. Looks likes he's finding his game; quiet offensively, solid D, hit the boards, run the court.

Beverley has been shooting the 3ball well for awhile now too. I knew early in the season his problem was age, and getting those muscles loose.

Dennis has had some good moments defensively. Good thing because he's only at 33% on his three pointers.

Very important pickup. A very young wing player that’s already elite at defense, and can grow into a better shooter to become a great 3 and D role player.

And he’s freaking cheap to boot. Love this pickup!

Good 1st-big-off-the-bench. Can change the intensity in defense/press unit with Schro.

Of which only 300k is guaranteed. He goes fully guaranteed on June 30th before free agency kicks off.

He’s essentially an expiring like Beas (via team option not picked up) and DLo.

Just curious, considering the Jazz want to rebuild...why give up on Vanderbilt?

Good video..his ability to help than rotate to shooters yet still the ability to defend the drive by good rotation of hips sounds like its going to very valuable.

Good foot speed and length.

Put him and AD and LBJ (when he wants to play defense), could be a great defensive combo.

My guess - Ainge has a lot of 1st round draft picks coming up so not likely to keep him or easier/cheaper to draft a replacement and getting rid of Conley's salary was a bigger priority.

Utah Jazz updated 1st round draft picks

2023 Draft:
Own
Timberwolves — Unprotected
Least favorable of Nets, Rockets, 76ers

2024 Draft:
Own — Top-10 protected or conveyed to OKC

2025 Draft:
Own — Top-10 protected or conveyed to OKC if not conveyed in 2024
Cavaliers — Unprotected
Timberwolves — Unprotected

2026 Draft:
Own or pick swap— Most favorable of Cavs, Timberwolves

2027 Draft:
Own
Lakers — Top-4 protected
Cavaliers — Unprotected
Timberwolves — Unprotected

2028 Draft:
Own or pick swap— Cavs

2029 Draft:
Own
Cavaliers — Unprotected
Timberwolves — Top-5 protected

More excited for this pickup than the other guys in the deal. Finally an elite wing defender.

AD
LBJ
Van/Rui
Beasley

probably will be cheerer in the bench with Wenyen coz ham will still prefer a 3 guard combination of Dennis, Pat and DLo 🤣🤣🤣

Jazz see Walker Kessler as more important, thus Van was squeezed. Similar situation when Jarred was in Minnesota, Mcdaniels was also viewed as the more important player who needed minutes. Ask wolves fans how much they miss Van's defense, rebounding, and energy. He's only 23 and his 3 pt. shot improves every year.
